Did Yugi turn any tables with it? Mirror Force was at least used against Weevil and seeing the little shit squirm after all of his monsters were destroyed was satisfying to watch. Trap Hole, Torrential, Judgement... none of those were used in anime nor manga in any significant way and to be considered to be truly iconic the card must be a big deal both in anime and in competetive play.

Drowning is ok in decks like Weather Painters that clear their own field and can have other priority targets for spell/trap removal to prevent the blind TT. I also sometimes side storming against players who aren't careful around backrow, especially Salamangreat since they have to give up Sunlight Wolf to spin it normally, and they don't see it if they do.

I remember playing in the 5Ds era when many decks had 1 copy of mirror force, 1 copy of bottemless trap hole and 2 copies of dimensional prison. This made it always a dilemma rather to summon Stardust or Thoughtruler. Stardust was immume to the first two but Thoughtruler was immume to the other two. Several decks also still ran brain control and monster control so that sometimes made thoughtruler more attractive. However at the same time Stardust not only protected itself from destruction cards but also protected your other monsters. If your felt safe though you would go for the third option in Scrap dragon. Those 3 were the 8 level synchro's everyone had.

They're atrocious because they use the English card names instead of actually translating and subtitling those names that are spoken by the characters. This is just the most obvious example.

Once an opponent stole my Beelzeus through Change of heart to attack me directly. Beelzeus has 4000 ATK and can't be destroyed. But I had a trap card laid from my 2nd turn of the duel. Its strange to me you blame Shaddolls BA and Qli when we had things like Majespectre's and Kozmo's which weren't targetable or destroyable by card effects which ruined almost all previous forms of removal like Torrential Tribute, Compulsory Evacuation Device, and Dark Hole. That's when we started to get those other mirror force cards to try and deal with the ridiculous hole Konami was digging at the time. Storming came out with Kozmo and Blazing came out with Majespectres.

I never played tournaments back in the day but I remember when I opened metal raider I was lucky enough to get Solemn Judgement, Suijin and black metal dragon back then. I didn't know the power of Solemn judgement back then and was afraid to use it because half my life points were gone. I never was able to summon black metal dragon and the one time ever I had both Red Eyes and Summoned skull in my hand with Poly I got Magic Jammered and almost flipped the table. I had some good times back then. I just got back into Yu-gi-oh the last year and the same friend I played with almost 20 years ago is who I play with now. Its amazing how a childrens card game has kept friendships stronger than ever.

Battle traps are obsolete, traps are as OP as ever with a pletora of meta relevant decks running them, they just shifted from an engine of good generic traps to more archetypal focused ones in decks that support them. Thats only regarding the main deck though, the side deck in the most part is filled part with generic good traps to counter specific strategies that a deck might have difficult against. Nice way of showing you dont play yugioh competitively.

Honestly Mirror Force isn't as strong as it once was in Metal Raiders, it's ruling was changed and the negation effect was removed, so monsters that were immune to destruction effects or could attack from defense position that attacked would still have their attack go through, Mirror Force would probably see more play if it did negate attacks in addition to destroying the monsters

The bigger issue is the sheer danger of recklessly wiping boards, the negation loss is neglible, its the devastating power of setting off possibly five GY effects that might refill the board or grant other forms of advantage, thus why Quaking and Storming and Drowning Mirror Force are generally better, Quaking forces all ATK Position monsters into Face-Down DEF, and prevents them from changing battle position for the rest of their time on the board, Storming bounces all ATK position monsters your opponent controls to their hand, Drowning sends them to their deck

Synchro is the most skill intensive mechanic in the game. When you perform a synchro, it's a show of resource management and well thought out planning; the true Platinum age of yugioh. Now we have Links: Synchros, but for scrubs.

In theory, Mirror Force should have made a comeback with Links given them being forced to always be in attack mode. Seems Konami thought this would happen too given its reverence in the anime. In reality, Konami loves packing more and more free destruction and negates on to monsters. So if your opponents attacking with a ton of monsters, its likely that you in turn either have no field, or dont have enough cards to get through all your opponents negates.

mirror force does have some use against beatdown swarming decks that have monsters with high attacks, so it does have some utility. You can punish your opponent for being too hyper aggressive and not cautious at all

I would say there is one more staple card which is bottomless trap hole. It remained a staple in pretty much every deck from the end of DM, through all of GX and all of 5DS as well. In 5DS it was even stronger. As while it was counter by Stardust that was the only synchro monster that was immune to it. It was a big reason why the card saw as much success as it did because bottomless trap hole couldn't just cut it short.

My funniest experience with a Mirror Force card was a few months ago when Bird Up was viable. This one guy set one and passed. I did the enter Bird Up combo, including Oath in the grave and attacked. He activated Storming Mirror Force, and he was so sure he had me. I activated Oath in my grave, and he scooped right there, declaring that Yugioh isn't fun anymore. Not my fault he decided to play normal pendulums (a deck I'd never heard of).

There's definitely some monsters with protections against bouncing, or being sent to the deck(and of course anything with generic card effect protection, or trap effect protection like Obelisk(not that he's good but he's an example)), but its not a super common protection

@@syrelian right because targeting and destruction seem to be more commom ways of protection and also unaffected by monsters effects or cannot be destroyed by battle. Since those are the most common protection the only mirror force that people play now and then is storming mirror force since bouncing cards, sending them to the grave, tributing, or sometimes even removal are the most effective ways to deal with boss monsters. Also mirror force ends up being a slower kind of raigeki with the only advantage of using it in the opponets turn.

While it's true that Mirror force nowadays is useless; Storming Mirror Force along with 1 solemn strike to negate and cut the chain of the oponent's negation of SMForce, is still and will allways be an outstanding combo. The only way Mirror Force can make a comeback without a big overhaul to how Yugioh is played involving a return to the old way (where both players you know, actually played) would be to make some form of it like "Destroy all attack position monsters, if this card is sent from the field to the GY without resolving its effect, banish all opponents monsters face down instead" so that it couldnt be destroyed early or negated. It needs such drastic uncounterability to return it to the days where you were afraid of it, but at the same time still has the ability to be played around (monster that cant be destroyed, putting monster in defense mode (shock for the modern game!), floating monsters)

Also, having a card like that could bring traps themselves back into the game. A powerful card you were afraid to leave on the field but also afraid to destroy could act as a smokescreen for other cards in a way cards like Waking the Dragon dont.

The early stages of yugioh made the game easier to play. I know the arguement of that certain cards were busted (pot of greed, etc) but I’ve tried to return now and it’s just insane. I’ve switched to rotating games like Pokémon and magic because the cost of entry to the game is too damn high. Miss the days of staple cards like mirror force and monster reborn. It’s nice to reuse certain cards instead of having to buy all new cards when I want to mix it up. Love videos like this for sure

They only hit attack position monsters There needs to be a new Mirror Force that banishes all attack position monsters, if they can make a broken card like Evenly Matched, they can make a new Mirror Force that banishes all attacking monsters.

Honestly is was always element based. The full name of the original mirror force is “Holy Barrier Mirror Force”. The epithet conveys it originally had a light attribute and it’s counterpart is dark mirror force.

When I got into the game, I was terrified of Drowning. Vanilla Mirror force? Got monsters that are immune to destruction, can negate that bad boy with a Star Dust. I got into the habit of taking out face down first because of that cards like that. Drowning? If you don't hit that thing when you attack, it's scoop

the first banlist was the first sign that Konami has NO IDEA how to balance cards.... look at other games, Vanguard, Wixoss and others. the banlists there, if they even have one, are WAAAY shorter than the list from ygo... and as we can see with, for example, Firewall dragon, Knoami never changes... they haven't noticed how important some text specifics like "once per turn" or maybe even "once per duel" are... but hey why stop if they keep selling it like they do, people buy it anyways.. even if a card would get banned 4 weeks later

My first experience with mirror force was in books a million. I had pyramid of light. I played dark hole to destroy andro sphinx and sphinx telea and summon thenian the great sphinx. I then attacked and proceeded to get my prepubescent ass beat and my confidence sent straight to the shadow realm 😂
