I saw an interview somewherewhere Dave was saying he had to learn their entire back catalogue or at least an entire setlist in 5 days. That's a lot of complicated stuff and a lot of tempo changes and challenging lead parts to learn in 5 days

I remember seeing this live actually and seeing pretty much the same thing two years earlier with Nick and Marty. I thought this lineup here sounded tighter live. Al Pitrelli really ate Marty for breakfast. Love how Dave Mustaine mixed Al's solo lower than his, typical Dave :)

So many things wrong here 1. Marty is wayyy above Al in terms of skill 2. Two years ago from this was 1999, when Degrasso was still their drummer. Menza left in 1998 3. I highly doubt this song was played on the Risk tour. Last known performance of Ashes in your mouth with that lineup was on July 4, 1993 in Dublin.

Loved the Nick and Marty era, but Al and Jimmy brought an energy that had been missing for a while. I think Nick was doing too much coke and Marty wanted to go more mainstream. Look at their last live performances live and you will see the playing was not very tight.

They always sounds tight until Nick left, Marty must have been disapointed plus later on he became less less interested in metal. Afterall, Nick played in many Marty solo albums during the 90's. I wont blame Dave either, Nick admitted he's a drug addict and its not until in last few years before his death he started to look healthy again. I feed bad for him though.

Marty didn't want to go moře mainstream. He wanted to go more progression. Something like thrash&heavy&poprock crossover. But Dave decided to go more classical hard&heavy after the commercial failure of Risk which Marty didn't agree so he left the band.

Degrasso’s drumming just seems so on top of the beat and rushing. It doesn’t flow. Al did a great job on the solo. Anyone who thinks Al is the best Megadeth had needs to realize everyone always says, wow “insert name” really nailed that Marty solo. No one has said wow, “insert name” really nailed that Pitrelli solo.
