The day Dave schooled everyone...this whole album is a master-piece!

That fact Megadeth did not “sell” as well as Metallica only confirms that Dave’s work is for more discerning and committed fans of the ARTs rather than the pure consumerism that wrecked Metalicker once Burton passed and they’d used all his notes for Justice- Shout Out Jason Newstead who kept it Metal and got canceled by the 2 twits on ego trips- in the end they got what they wanted Lamestream bling bling like posers always do hahaha!!!

Megadeth are definitely the "musicians choice" out of the Big 4, and most thrash bands to be honest. The writing on the first 5 albums is definitely some of the most musically "advanced" by thrash standards, so if you're a muso, they're way more of a rewarding and fun listen than other bands in the genre

I agree. One band that also belongs but doesn't get included is the King Diamond band . Especially the Them album. It took me a long time to be able to deal with King's vocals , but eventually I did. I actually played it through an old 8 track recorder and tried to remove the vocal tracks .

The cover art shown is actually for the Hangar 18 single. The guy with the skull head is Vic Rattlehead, the band's mascot since the first album. He tends to show up on a lot of their albums, and he represents the whole "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" thing since he's got a mask bolted on his eyes, huge clamps through his jaw, and giant bolts over his ears. His "creation" is described in the song Rattlehead from the first album, Killing Is My Business... But Business Is Good!

I think Judson should hear ‘Wake Up Dead’ , ‘Tornado Of Souls’ , and ‘In My Darkest Hour’. Also, I think all ~Megadeth fans will agree that the live performance of ‘She-Wolf’ from the *Rude Awakening* DVD is required viewing, to get an idea of just how tight these guys are LIVE. A lot of bands are sloppy, live, but Megadeth remind me of my teenage heroes Blue Öyster Cult: they only have one or two true instrumentals, but they can tern their existing 5-min. songs into far-out, very heavy extended jams.

Megadeth from the Peace Sells album had Chris Poland on lead guitar and Gar Samuelson on drums who both had a background in Jazz music so Dave Mustaine who is a pretty smart man kept that style for most of the early Megadeth years where even though it’s Thrash Metal it had a mix of groovy Jazz Fusion somehow mixed in. You still get that groovy feel in the Rust in Peace album. On the Peace Sells album you have The Conjuring and Good Morning Black Friday songs that show In the next album why Hangar 18, 5 Magiks, Tornado of Souls, and Holy Wars had catchy rhythms and clean guitar work.

Awesome to hear the original 1990 mix! Yeah, maybe it’s not as clear or dynamic with modern production values, but the remixes have newly recorded drums, which is why they sound so up front and synthetic and even some guitar parts are re-recorded too. Guys like me who’ve been listening to this album regularly since it was released in September 1990 were so offended and disappointed when those remixes came out. The original albums are ingrained in my brain from listening to them so much the last 33 years that the sonic difference are immediate and they sound phony. Anyway, I don’t wan to keep kicking a dead horse about it. I’m just happy you got the right one here. Looking forward to more Megadeth, especially Tornado of Souls. Happy to hear Judson is enjoying them more than he thought he would. I just saw Megadeth last week in Albuquerque for my 18th time since 1991 and Dave Mustaine still brings it. They and the other Big Four bands were such a huge part of my youth in the 80s. It’s nice to still see them around. 🤘🏼

Here`s two fun facts about Hanger 18: The intro with the downstrokes IS exactly the same chords (all in D) as in a part of "The Call of Ktulu" which he listen to a few weeks ago. A part Mustaine (of cause) wrote. Actually not sure if he wrote the hole intro part?? During solo recording Dave keept on telling Friedman. "Think Alien, think Alien" which i actually think he nailed pretty damn good!!

Dave's songwriting skills are truly something of a marvel, considering he had no formal musical education. The dynamics and changes that go on in the rhythms are incredible, his "vision" for his music, his sense of concept and musical direction, is undeniably clear and concise. I don't even want to get into Marty Friedman either, he's one of the best players on earth in my opinion. Incredible chops and his knowledge of different sounds and styles is top shelf. His phrasing is maybe the best I've ever heard.

You had mentioned something about ][v][EGADET][-][ being their favourite jazz band & that makes total sense because the original Megadeth drummer Gar Samuelson actually took jazz drumming lessons & one of his nick names was “The Spider” behind his drum kit in which he was so interesting to watch + he played drums by holding his drum sticks like a jazz drummer like Max Weinberg or the Anvil drummer Robb Reiner who is an insanely talented drummer as well. It was cool that you both talked about Megadeth & Metallica & how Megadeth’s songs are a lot more complex & very interesting to listen to that’s for sure! I try not to get involved in that Megadeth & Metallica argument about who’s better, yadda, yadda! but Megadeth blows Metallica clean out of the water in terms of complexity & originality & more catchier songs imo but don’t get me wrong Metallica also has a tremendous catalogue of great tunes but i’ll always pick the mighty ][v][EGADET][-][ 🤘
