Edit: 1st Solo Fix! Be sure to watch this new video for a correction to the positioning of Chris Poland's first solo. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqimnoF8qMacbMUsi=9OXX-a9YfSqp102r I've recently found live footage that shows my fingering for the first solo is wrong. I will be fixing that portion and reuploading. This is a favorite Megadeth track of mine and it's full of killer riffs and rippin' solos! It should keep you busy for a while. Let me know what other Megadeth songs you'd like to see. Don't forget to like and subscribe: kzbin.info You're all awesome my friends!

This is why I love your channel, I can always count that I learned the song well because you care about the details like me. Where I first saw the video I did notice that the Fingering was wrong, but don't worry this happens to pretty much every channel I've seen that tries to cover chris Poland, even people that claim that they are playing accurately. He has an insane clean legato and reach, most people don't assume he is making these insane Stretches while pulling off, so they tab it as using two strings. Once you figure out his playing you can see that he is using mostly patterns. I've been learning the bad omen intro solo for weeks now and I finally got it 100% right, both fingering and notes,using the isolated lead track and live footage as reference. Do you know when you will be reuploading the solo? I look forward to seeing the solo lesson! Btw, Thanks a lot for all your well explained video lessons, you are a Beast player too!

@TimHolman2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I hear you man. Poland was and is really influenced by jazz and I think that it really comes out in his solos. They're not the typical minor pentatonic or three note per string runs. He's really creative and knows how to construct unexpected leads. They can be tough to figure out for sure.

You deserve so many more views and subscribers, I hope your channel takes off. I appreciate the detail you put into your videos, especially incorporating the music theory into your lessons. For self-taught people like myself, it helps me understand WHY a particular lick, phrase, or riff works, and gives a glimpse into how they were created. Ever consider a lesson on Psychotron off of Countdown to Extinction or Skin Of My Teeth?

@@TimHolman Awesome, looking forward to it! Megadeth is one of my favorites, and they have so many great songs to choose from. I've got most of Peace Sells down, but have been applying your 3 I's method to a couple other songs and Chris Poland's first solo in this song; I can't seem to get it to sound right.
@TimHolman2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that first lead is one of the trickiest licks in the track. Applying the 3 I's will definitely help. Do you have it arranged as all 16th notes? It's very fast and phenomenally well played on the recording.
@ordinaryavgguy2 жыл бұрын
@@TimHolman The timing probably is my issue. This should be played as 16th notes? The first half of it I can get it to sound correct, but I noticed the one area I was playing as triplets is a group of 3 then 5. The descending run I was playing as triplets (starting with the 2 groups of 14/13/12 on the G string) but now notice that the first 13th fret note starts that group. Honestly, the solo flies by so fast, it is hard to nail down.
@TimHolman2 жыл бұрын
@@ordinaryavgguy The lick isn't 16th notes but if I needed to practice it I would play it as 16th notes. Play it slowly and accurately a few hundred times and then just play it as fast possible to sound like the album. Lol!

What size strings do you recommend. Which size and type do you personally use ? I have been using 11's. As an old guy I'm thinking of switching to 10's. Man does this song bring back memories of misspent youth😇 Saw Em play at Warfield on their killing is my business tour with Metallica & Exodus all opening the show for Metal Church. It's so weird trying to learn these fills and solos....because when they're being played slowly it just sounds like a bunch of weird random notes....even when you speed it up a little, it sounds odd. But when you REALLY speed it up then it sounds good and correct it's weird to me how it's like that. And with some parts I just cannot get the smoothness, precision but mainly the speed down to save my life. Like for ex.. with Wake Up Dead i can play Mustaine's ending main solo....when it's that descending run that starts at low E string 12th fret I can get the speed down for that but the part right after that section where he does a bunch of Hammer ons really fast....for some reason I cant play it fast so it ends up sounding dumb and I dont know what I'm doing wrong

Can you please tell me how many notes per beat are in this part of the solo (46:11)? I feel like it's 6 note groupings when I count but 6 notes per beat at around 145 bpm feels crazy fast, no? I can get that lick up to speed just by feel but when I try to actively play 6 notes per beat at 145 bpm with the metronome, I feel like it's much faster than the actual solo and I can barely do it. Am I trippin' or is there something I don't understand?
@TimHolman2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that lick really is a feel thing. It's a 6 note repeating pattern but it doesn't have a strict timing. It's not six notes a beat. You're right that that would be very fast. Some beats have four and some have five but don't worry too much about that. You're doing it right if you can feel it.
@moosaawad16272 жыл бұрын
@@TimHolman Thanks a lot for the clarification. I found that sticking to the notes he accents and syncing them up with the drum beat is the best way to make it feel right. For me, trying to actively figure out the down beats where you’ve got both 4 note and 5 note groupings with a repeating phrase of 6 notes was hectic; so I thought I was doing something wrong when playing it fast even though it sounds good.
