Now this album brings back some wonderful memories, my brother worked at a record store and they got a special promo version of this on CD and it came in a cool coffin looking box, still have it to this day 30 years later. Some dope riffs on here and Marty Friedman is a hell of a lead guitar player. As probably the only black heavy metal kid growing up in SouthWest Atlanta, you only could imagine the looks on my friends faces when they would come over to my house and I would throw this on lol 😂 great memories and a great album 🔥

If you do buy it on physical media, I would recommend getting either the vinyl or the original release on Capitol. The remix/remastered version is absolute trash. The bass in particular is just....ugh. That holy wars...punishment due is two songs just banged together. The first part ("holy wars") was inspired by a show they did in Ireland during the Troubles where Mustaine ran his mouth about the IRA and afterwards he Had A Bad Time. "the punishment due" part is about the comic "The Punisher".

I've been a fan of Megadeth for years but I never give anyone shit that doesn't like them because, I understand. I really do. Dave frustrates me to no end sometimes. Honestly, if he would have gotten voice lessons early on, he would have sounded much better. I kind of like that he sounds like some weird goblin creature but because he doesn't know how to sing properly, there are always problems hearing him in concert because he's not projecting like he should, and the sound-guy is constantly confused and fucking with shit. I'm glad you basically like Rust In Peace though, if ever there were a Megadeth album to dig, it's that one. Your honesty is refreshing, I've enjoyed your content for a while now. \,,/

I remember getting into Megadeth I hated Dave's voice but loved the guitar work enough that, I wouldn't say it grew on me since I still don't like it, but it stopped annoying me and then I really started loving Megadeth. I think it was Peace Sells with the first 5 songs on the album minus the title track that made me love Megadeth.

Yeah there are only four Megadeth albums I enjoy. All of them from "Peace Sells..." to "Youthinasia" while removing "So Far, So Good...". I agree with your assessment of it and of their first album. And I do see why and agree it’s a Classic, but I as well was never a huge Megadeth fan or fan of Mustaine’s voice!💯💯 was just playing this record on the Weekend! The Riffs and Solo’s def make up for the vocals, but even the vocals grow on you. Metallica always surpassed Megadeth everytime they thought they were gonna 1 up them lol. @austintowns37452 жыл бұрын
Rust in Peace was an album I thought was flawless growing up, but man Dave's vocals are only just barely tolerable across his entire discography, and the effects added here are rough. It really detracts from the monster instrumental performances that are delivered here. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on a Peace Sells relisten. The band jams a bit more like a metal Return to Forever - Chris Poland and Gar Samuelson wear their influences on their sleeve here - than what the Megadeth style would become.
@timanderson5417 Жыл бұрын
metal head since 1980. couldn't enjoy Megadeth until around 2010 because of the vocals. thank god I got over it! the musicianship is always top tier. the riffs are awesome, but sometimes there are too many changes in 1 song for most listeners (i like that though). I am such a guitar freak i learned bass in the 80's just so i could share the stage with great guitar players, and M-Deth always has them. if you ignore d.m.'s voice (on albums AND interviews) the music is sweet
@azraelspeaks2 жыл бұрын
Excellent review. IMO, Metallica and Megadeth are "Thrash Lite" around that era (I say that because Metallica is more "Hard Rockabilly" now and Megadeth is more "Rock" now). So much Thrash influence but so much mainstream vibes. TBH, I may not be the biggest fan of that era for either band, but I am glad they did that. They got more people into Metal because of what they made. More people listening is better for the genre.

I will always have nostalgia for this album and this band. I was about 10 or 11 years old when I first heard Holy Wars and the rest of this album and I was blown away at the time. I will always respect the playing and musicianship even though it feels like guitar noodling half the time on Mustaine’s side; Marty Friedman’s playing still holds up phenomenally. But I can only take so much of Dave’s voice these days, especially late 90’s and on

As a Megadeth fan, i respect your opinion because you actually list the reasons why your not a fan of the band. How you feel about Dave’s voice is how I feel about the vocals of Emperor. I have largely the same opinion as you of Megadeth. I've tried a few times to get into the band but have never really listened to much other than the singles and only liked a few songs and the biggest hurdle for me is Dave's voice. It just borders on parody for me and turns me off. If Megadeth had a different vocalist and Dave was just on guitar, I would probably enjoy the band a lot more than I do but it just bugs me.

I've always said So Far So Good is their weakest release prior to the split. But Megadeth has the worst vocals out of the big 4 and probably in metal period. And this is coming from a fan. Their instrumentation is their strongest point. Arguably some of the best and most unique musicians in the genre (Menza, Gar, Poland, Friedman). Everything they dropped after their reformation is pretty crappy though,
@melvinramone26052 жыл бұрын
I really like this album and Peace Sells but beyond that I think Megadeth is a couple/few good songs per album band and easily the weakest of the Big Four. I get a lot of grief from Metal heads for just being lukewarm on Megadeth I imagine it's even worse for someone who doesn't like them at all. I like your review. Makes me want to put the album on, and always good to hear someone pleasantly surprised by an album. Not that it matters but "Holy Wars/The Punishment Due" is lyrically two songs put together. "Holy Wars" is about a time he was playing in Ireland and was convinced when he was drunk by some locals to make a pro IRA statement on stage. It caused a riot and the band had to be escorted out of the country. He's admitting he was a dip shit for speaking on a topic like that without understanding the situation. "The Punishment Due" is about The Punisher from Marvel Comics. Great video. Thanks for posting.
