Dave Mustaine said 'Tears in a vial' was about the 2002 breakup of Megadeth... He had relapsed into drugs, he suffered a nerve injury that left him unable to play guitar, and his family was on the verge of a divorce in '02... So, Mustaine did the only thing he could - ended the band (he was not happy w/ the players; drummer Jimmy DeGrasso & guitarist Al Pitrelli) went to treatment and tried to make things right w/ his wife Pam... both his son and daughter were still kids. Dave & Pam did nearly get divorced, but they were able to fix their relationship eventually... By 2004, Mustaine had gained his guitar skills back and prepped a new album w/ session players... it was supposed to be a solo album. But his publishing w/ Megadeth was still contractually unfinished... so he said, "OK, this is a Megadeth record"... He wanted the 'Rust in peace' line-up to reunite in '04 for the tour... but David Ellefson (bass) declined and sued Mustaine in court... guitarist Marty Friedman (guitar) declined... and (the late) Nick Menza (drums) signed up, but was allegedly a disaster in rehearsals, so he was out... The Megadeth album was 'The system has failed' and made a good comeback... Mustaine recruited drummer Shawn Drover, his brother Glen Drover on guitar, and James MacDonough on bass for the 2004/'05 Megadeth tour.

Probably my all time most played Megadeth song, even learned it on guitar. TSHF is SOOOOO underrated.
