Yep, just keep in mind, they're not glorifying it, they're exposing it. I was horrified by this song when I first heard it about 35 years ago or whatever, but when I actually read through the lyrics, I realized it's like a history lesson put to music. An incredibly dark and disturbing history, but history never the less. It reminded me of the famous quote "Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it."

Thank you for mentioning that. So many people ... especially when metal is concerned just take it on shock .. hate or racial value. Where other music can expose issues of the past or present ... cheers mate

I mean, sure. As far as mainstream thrash goes Slayer was on top. There are some way more brutal thrash bands, Demolition Hammer - Epidemic Of Violence is regarded as the heaviest/most brutal thrash album ever. In recent years Power Trip had some pretty brutal shows as well. Not trying to belittle Slayers legacy or influence, just trying to highlight some bands that aren't in the main stream category of Thrash.

Slayer is pure brutality. Back in the early/mid 1980's were one the most extreme bands in Metal by any means, also with Motörhead, Venom, Mercyful Fate, Bathory, Hellhammer, and Celtic Frost, influenced the creation of Death Metal and Black Metal. Jeff, Kerry and Tom lyrics has always that creepy and punch of reality factor.

A little ditty, as you rightly said, about Dr Josef Mengele. There is a lot of Nazism referenced in Slayer's canon - Jeff Hannemann (RIP) was so well read in the subject. They got a load of shit about being Nazis when in reality they were just putting the message out there about the Holocaust in their own inimitable style (Tom Araya Vocals and Bass is one of the nicest, softly spoken guys you could meet). Go check out the lyrics AND the studio version. And for info - I visited Bergen Belsen years ago - one of the most humbling experiences of my life.

I think this is my new favorite reaction, Lilly Jane!! And the occasion for it was just perfect. No one tells a story like Slayer! Contrary to average belief, they must be the most anti war, anti cruelty band, especially in their genre. Exposing the horrors and ugliness of war, torture, murder and other evils that humans do to each other. And Slayer does it so effectively, bringing their point across so bluntly in your face, in a manner of a shock. Add the amazing level of musical performance. Unnerving, menacing riffs, off key screaming solos, and thrashing, second to none... For next Slayer songs, besides Raining Blood, I recommend Chemical Warfare - really the one song that signified Slayer moving onto serious topics. I also suggest you do Repentless, an awesome song from their most recent (2015) studio album by the same title. I'd definitely also look into South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss albums, there're quite a few of great songs there. Looking forward to more Slayer! 🤘😖

You owe it to yourself to listen to the studio track on Reign In Blood. The initial scream is blood curdling! In fact, that entire album is possibly the most aggressive displays ever recorded, and capped at the beginning with Angel Of Death, and at the end with the equally epic Raining Blood. It set the standard for extreme Metal, that, to be honest, I dont know if its ever been topped. Sure, I know, everyone will argue that tons of bands tried to be more extreme, but to my ears, I’ll argue that it just never quite worked. Reign In Blood is still the most epic, most Extreme Metal album ever created, if for no other reason, than they were the first, and at best, Ill allow that others may have matched it, but they never topped it. I would recommend it as a full album review…. If you think you can handle 26 minutes solid of pure aggressive adrenaline.

There's vids from Slayer club shows back on their Reign In Blood tour in 86, and not only is Araya's opening scream for Angel of Death pitch perfect due to him being so much younger, the overall sound is much better too than the show in this clip, probably due to a small club having better acoustics than an open stadium

There was a lot of controversy about this song, their original label wouldn't even release it. To be clear, it's not a pro-Nazi or anti-Jewish song, it's just a recounting of the evil atrocities that happened. I thought that a live version might be a bit much for a first timer but this performance was pretty clear and understandable. I still recommend you check out the album version as well, though. I'll suggest "Behind The Crooked Cross" for a future listen. *Also, you should listen to Postmortem and Raining Blood as one song!!!

It's difficult, isn't it. I was born in East Germany. It was an integral part of the education back then to visit a concentration camp when we were around 12 yrs old, at that age quite a shocking experience. One day, I stumbled across a video of Slayer performing at some Hollywood event, and I was disgusted by the way the audience reacted - having fun, mocking heavy metal etc. But Slayer did a great thing with this song -- they created a memorial of the events in their own way. A really shocking song, extremely well though t through, and as brutal as the events they are singing about.

SLAYER IS THE GREATEST BAND TO EVER WALK THE PLANET OF EARTH 🌎. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 Hey, everyone reacts to Angel of Death and Raining Blood. Please go outside the box and react to Antichrist, Cult, Evil Has No Boundaries, Disciple, Temptation, Hell Awaits, or Crypts of Eternity or Seven Faces. I feel like I could go on forever. These are songs that I haven't seen anyone react to. Well, there are a couple here that have been reacted to. Thank you for my consideration.

When this came out, we all knew what it was about. Education has been dumbed down. And, contrary to what my mom thought, Slayer never glorified the evil that their songs were about. She was in her 60s before I showed her an interview with Tom, at home with his family.. 😂

Fun fact...Public Enemy sampled the breakdown rift in "she watch channel zero" as they are both produced by Rick Rubin(defjam) at the time.

Slayer- At Dawn They Sleep, live video is VHS Full intrusion. It is simply better than the album version, and I say that as someone who usually prefers the album versions. Imo is is amongst the most underrated. Other excellent songs include: Black Magic Metal storm/face the slayer Necrophiliac There’s others, but those options don’t get reviewed too often

scary music for scary history. I always felt that the way this info is presented in this song is so shocking that it forces people to pay attention and learn to not repeat history.

This is Terry VonCannon. Just found your channel and the reaction was awesome. It's great to hear a beautiful young woman who is aware of those events during WWII. My uncle helped liberate the Buchenwald Camp in 1945. You must listen to Raining Blood. If you have not done Pantera Domination live it is just as much a banger! 🤘🤘

South of Heaven... many of us Slayer followers ( we're not fans we are followers ). Some think of their follow up album to be lacking of intensity which I believe the whole album as a whole does not. Had the privilege of seeing slayer twice, once with the original lineup and both shows kicked ass but I must say South of Heaven crossed between speed and slowing tempos down becoming more sadistic as well as better written. So maybe check out South of Heaven. By the way, love the Lilly Munster hair.

Right on you really understand Slayer guitar solos. Like tormented agonizing screams of the subjects they're speaking on

Best song ever recorded. The tempo changes, the lyrics, the dueling guitar solos at the end...perfect. I think this was the song tenacious d was referencing in "tribute". ;)

I'm 60 and first seen slayer in '83 at the beginning and have always been my favorite band.being a slayer fan is like a religion with other slayer fans.its a brotherhood and sisterhood(can't leave out the female fans)it is such a tight knit unified group and have never felt anything like it until I served in the USMC in desert Storm...and I blasted slayer in Kuwait and Baghdad to let the villagers know we were coming.

I remember the first time I heard Slayer. I seen them on their Reign In Blood tour. My buddy asked me if I wanted to go see Slayer. I was like sure, but who's Slayer? We took a couple hits of Acid, and drank a 1/2 gallon of Even Williams just for fun and went to the shown. I thought I was being assaulted by the wall of wonderful, beautiful noise that penetrated my soul. I have never been the same... lol...

Nice reaction Lilly!!! Your historical background and knowledge, does, shine light on such a dark themed tune, time, and subject of humanities past. Thank You!!! "Don't know where we are going if we don't KNOW from which we came!!!" Its really good to see that SLAYER can still bring-in new fan bases no matter the line up. The originals will always "Reign in Blood" Supreme!!! 🤘"Seasons in the Abyss" is a really good one also. I was sold on them by then.

My favorite band now for what 30/40 yrs. Was a girl metal head back in the day and now have the son getting into Slayer. Tom Araya, a family man a softly spoken man always smiling and happy I could listen to him say Fire all day long. Best song for me is Expendable Youth.

I am an electrician by trade. I have installed thousands of RCDs. I am also an atheist. But every RCD I injstalled, I said a little, self made prayer to honour the sacrifice that the KZ inmates made to construct the RCD. Slayer remind of us of this sacrifice. They do not glorify them. We have to honour the value of all those human lives. NEVER FORGET!!!

Slayer, Dayton Hara Arena, 1992, the whole floor turned into the most brutal mosh pit I've ever seen as soon as they started. People were literally getting dragged out of there unconscious. What a time to be alive. 🤘👽🤘 Edit: react to "Ghosts of War", probably my favorite by Slayer.

I'm chilean, Tom Araya the vocalist of the group is chilean and the band has most of the beginning of their albums talked subjects about nazi idiology and satanic verses, I'm glad you have the education to get to notice it and react to it more than just the music, thank you.

When I was growing up in the 80's people thought us headbangers were stupid and ignorant. They never took the time to listen to the lyrics. Little did they know that we were very aware of history and current events.
