It's not really sporadic, pretty basic triplet fill. It may sound "sporadic" to the untrained ear, because he's playing a triplet fill into a song that isn't in compound meter time signature but normal 4/4. But it's competely valid thing, and many genres of music are filled with this. For example in "Train of Consequences" opening riff guitars do the same thing

I like this sound from Megadeth the best, in all honesty. I love their classic speed metal sound, but there's something about the melody-focused approach to Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings that keeps me coming back. I think that if Dave had named the band something other than Megadeth (maybe Polaris), there would be more room for experimenting with their sound.

@@suikogarden that wasn't Lars tho, the shift to alt-rock in Risk was due to Marty, Jr and the band's management at the time. You can read about it on an article Mustaine wrote in 2004 called "David Ellefson is suing me and Megadeth". The whole stylistic shift was due to peer pressure, basically.

Thats exactly why I started listening to Megadeth. I was all about Metallica at the time Cryptic Writings came out and my brother's friend lent him the CD and after hearing it,-this song in particular-,it grabbed my attention. I ended up buying it that week for myself and its been in my rotation ever since

Uh...because back when this stuff first came out nobody could just hop on the Internet and listen to it. You had to pay for it first before you knew whether it was good or bad. So if everyone was saying an album sucked, you didn't shell out the money for it and hence couldn't listen to it. Obviously it's different now.

Yea you have a point but I actually listen to few songs from this album on internet back in late 97 or early 98. I dont know where I download it but what got was that shitty "real audio" file format which came before mp3. In fact, I used yahoo to search the songs at the time lol . I listen to She wolf and Trust and that's enough to convince me to buy this record. Circus and Metal edge magazines actually gave it a great score which helped to convince me to get the album. I know the singles from this album are really popular on US radio but in my country, rock radio is almost non existent.
