Another great reaction video, man! My recommendation for a band to toss into your draft bag is NEVERMORE. You will not be disappointed. Amazing vocal range by Warrel Dane who sadly passed away just a few months ago. And legendary guitarist Jeff Loomis always alongside the rest of these technically superior musicians. YouYouYou!!! will be singing into his hairbrush and playin' those strings. They've got lots of groove and can also shred.

There's a project called Ayreon; it's ultimately the brain child of 1 guy, but it features multiple guest vocalists from handfuls of bands. On the most recent album alone, there were guest vocals from the vocalists of Dream Theater, Epica, Nightwish, Kamelot, Between the Buried and Me, Blind Guardian, Avantasia, Symphony X and a few others. Some of Devin Townsend's work has features, like the album Deconstructed as guest vocals from November's Doom, Opeth, Emperor, Between the Buried and Me [same as the one on the Ayreon album], Gojira, Cynic, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Nightwish, GWAR, as well as guest musicians from Soilwork and Meshuggah. Kamelot's also regularly featured guest vocalists from other bands such as Arch Enemy, Soilwork, Dimmu Borgir, and others. Another common thing for metal groups to do in terms of collabs is making "supergroups" where multiple members from other, often successful bands come together and have side projects, some examples being Killer Be Killed [has members from Mastodon, The Mars Volta, Dillinger Escape Plan, and Max Cavalera], Hellyeah [members from Mudvayne, Nothingface, Pantera, and a brother of a Mastodon member], Down [Pantera, Corrosion of Conformity, Superjoint Ritual, Goatwhore], Bloodbath [Opeth, Katatonia, Hypocrisy, Nightingale], Avantasia itself is a massive supergroup, A Perfect Circle [Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins], Five Finger Death Punch is apparently one [Motograter, UPO, Alice Cooper and WASP]. Off the top of my head I can remember Soilwork's vocalist also doing some guest vocals on a Demon Hunter song. So yeah~~ There is lots of collaboration! C:

Yeah I agree with you on the features part. They're definitely out there, especially on more modern albums, but they aren't anywhere near as frequent as Hip-Hop. Anyways, that was Christina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil (and the song itself as actually a new version of a song you hated on Youthanasia, which I think shows how much of an improvement it is lol)
@jamesr5506 жыл бұрын
So in regards to your question, Metal s extremely popular overseas where EPs (mini records with a single and some bonus tracks) still sell. A lot of bands record songs with other artists, but they often release them as bonus tracks on EPs or limited deluxe box sets, ect. Sadly, many of them don't end up on the original album. There's some gems out there though.

You need to take into accout the fact that this band doesn't have a "singer". Dave mustaine is rythm and lead guitar AND sings while playing. Half of the solos you hear are executed by him. The riffs you hear while he sings are also being played by him. And he is also the songwriter for all songs. With all that he does for the sound of the band the sub-par vocals are more than forgiven.
@shmick60796 жыл бұрын
Maceta regardless, there’s nobody that could match the intensity and feeling of Mustaine’s vocals. Without those vocals there would be no Megadeth.

I don't mind Dave's vocals but drugs and alcohol definitely took a toll on his voice. His voice on the earlier albums was at least very emotive and snarly. He's not bad now but there's nothing about his vocals where I go "wow" they're just tolerable. Not everyone can be Rob Halford or David Draiman
@oliverqueen98866 жыл бұрын
Unknown Unknown whos david draiman? I saw judas priest this month in concert. Rob is still great at singing in his age and its amazing how he has 18 studio albums and still has a great voice in his old age. Most singers lose it in there 50s or 60s.

Features in metal are pretty rare but there's been more of them in the newer generations of metal music (I'd say the 2000s and forwards). You'll probably find a decent amount of tracks that have guest guitar solos (probably because they're quick to do nowadays, they just send the files to the guitarist and he records it from home and sends it back). That song you were talking about did have a female singer featured (Christina Scabbia), I think it's one of two features Megadeth ever did, David Draiman from Disturbed has a small vocal part in the song Dance In The Rain. But mostly they either form side projects / supergroups with other metal band members or stick to their own band.
@sgthugostigiitz59356 жыл бұрын
Metal bands rarely do have featured singers. The bands usually don't have "great" singers, and the music is more about the guitars and drums. But, Five Finger Death Punch has Rob Halford from Judas Priest and Maria Brink from In This Moment (on the same album). Rage Against the Machine had Maynard from Tool. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
@brandonacosta53126 жыл бұрын

There are a few feature vocalists on metal. Here are some examples: Epica ft. Floor Jansen (Nightwish, After Forever) - Sancta Terra Halford ft. Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) - The one you love to hate Megadeth ft. Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil) - A tout le monde. This one you just reacted to Avantasia ft. Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation) - Farewell Blind Guardian ft. Kai Hansen (Helloween, Gamma Ray) - Valhalla Dio ft. Almost every 80's popular metal singer - We Are Stars. (This was done to raise funds for poor children) Bonus track: Anthrax ft. Public Enemy - Bring the noise. $100 you'll absolutely enjoy the fuck out of this track.

Metal bands don't have features because they don't need them. The reason you see so many features in other genres is because they NEED outside input to successfully accomplish the sound they're looking for. I find it very refreshing when you look at the production credits of an album and it's just the band and a few tech guys. Instead of when you look at something like a rap album, you might see like 80...even 100 people on the production credits. It really tells you something when 5 people can make a better product than the work of 100.

The problem with doing features in Metal is the actual sonic space required. You can't do this entire band featuring this entire band because it's hard enough to mix metal as it is, if you have a guitarist or a singer, like Know Your Enemy feat. Maynard James Kennan (the singer of Tool) by RATM, you can do it, but mixing possibly 4 guitars, 2 basses, 2 drums and 2 singers and it sound clear is basically impossible.
@Tarkess6 жыл бұрын
This is probably why most "features" in metal are just guest guitar solos. Instead of the lead guitarists playing a solo they'll sometimes get a guest to lay down a solo without it really messing with anything the band has going.
