Heroes of Might and Magic IV is a turn-based strategy game developed by Gus Smedstad through New World Computing and published by the 3DO Company for Microsoft Windows-based personal computers in 2002. A Macintosh port was subsequently developed by Contraband Entertainment and released by the 3DO Company. The fourth installment of the popular Heroes of Might and Magic franchise, it is the sequel to Heroes of Might and Magic III, and was the last to be developed by New World Computing.

Im still sad this game never got the respect it deserved. Sure it was.. different from HoMM3. But Im convinced if this game had the random map generator added, and a loyal modding community like HoMM3 has, a lot of the issues with it would have been improved upon. I'd play the hell out of a (proper) random map generator for this game. I can only play the campaigns so much before they become boring.

Remember when this game came out in 2002 and I was very disappointed, I hated how Necropolis and Inferno shared the same town. And the game in general just felt off. Heroes III was for me the last good Heroes game.

Titan army would have faired worse if you stopped attacking the only creature with First strike ability, to be fair.

One the one hand I do agree that the AI is dumb as toast. On the other hand... this is one of the most easily fought battle for the AI. There is just ONE opponent... so... not much to mess up. And any human would face the same issues... This unit is extremely quick and can move very far, killing you in the very starting turn without you having had the chance to move at all. And the resistance would be the same problem for the human: Will the peace-spell work? Or not? Curse? Work? Don´t? Nightmares? With the wide area of attack... the computer knows exactly from where to attack. Most players will struggle to ESTIMATE the angle to minimize the ret-damage. But yes... a player can and would wait, the AI not. But if that is your only point.......

All depends on luck if icedemon would freeze dragon necropolis would have also won. + Fact that player used megadragon was unfair as person on enemy side could use slow weaker units to cheese retaliation to avoid wide breath attack. Moreover smart player would use 6 water elementals instead 6 tigers to cast weakness, slow, quicksands and use icebolts. Or instead 7 elves using 6 fire elementals (would survive 1-3 attacks and are immune to wide breath attack instead dying at first and still deal higher dmg (7 elves deal max 18 dmg with 2 shots while elementals deal 24).

If the player is using the town creatures while AI used the megadragon, death already won by the moment venom spawn lands poison debuff while devils still alive. All you need to do is just spread out all the remaining units as fwr as possible, especially have the devils teleport to the farthest area where megadragon cannot reach many times until megadragon dies from poison

Megadragon is a chaos-type unit so Titans take less damages from them thanks to their Chaos-ward

​@@PeriqculosusCZ interestingly enough, they have similar stats, their abilities are different, but don't matter in a 1x1 fight, so, if we play by heroes 4's simultaneous attacks, then it's either or whoever get luckier with the damage spread

Yah man Order spells are a bit... idk The hypnosis spell is just too op And "steal all enchantments" is my favourite spell, its situationally op but against ai it cant be used so much as the ai rarely casts any spells But in multiplayer it could change turns, from you losing to you winning Imagine stealing 15+ spells from other Player and having ring of permanency And it all goes to the one hero you have in army

close fight while taking ranged damage is the point of loss. Jiins+mages+halfings must be destroyed in first place, than titans and other units with one breath attacking all - that is key to victory

There was that one mission that gave you one megadragon per month and i remember that one time when i was playing that mission, i cheated myself some units and i legimately waited in my town until i got 20 megadragons That mission was painfully easy ngl

I remember taking this dragon on in the uhh...barbarian campaign with the single hero you were not supposed to loose. "Everyone died!", somehow...had no idea one can have a battle where literally nobody lives...was followed with a game over, though.

As i know in HoMM 4 there is no way of fully create random maps. You can use brush tool in map editor but it is still much work.

They died quickly, but they also put out a lot of damage. In terms of damage dealt, Life did worst. But that does not necessarily make it the weakest. It is just they performed worse in this specific battle.

To all of you say Megadragon is OP, Megadragon is only OP when they are many. This test showed you exactly how weak Megadragon is. Remember that only 1 Megadragon is spawned for every 2 weeks. The number of creatures used in this test for other town are only 1 week worth. If the Megadragon truly fought against the correct number of creatures, they would lose 100% the time.

After the amazing Heroes 3, the series started to go in a terrible direction and the 1st installment of this direction was Heroes 4. Graphically interesting but otherwise complicated game with weird gameplay, with a terrible combination of units under new faction names, e.g. necromancers together with hell was death, etc. With Heroes 3 the whole saga ended for me!
