According to its datasheet, a 7805 regulator can accept between 7,5v (absolute minimum value) to 35V (absolute maximum value). Obviously the maximum voltage comes with a lot of heat to dissipate. So using a SMPS PSU capable to feed enough current, like the Sony one, make sense. With the right plug and the right polarity, of course.

Yes you are correct, the data sheets show anywhere from 6 to 37v in some cases...but ...8.5 in my opinion is too low...10 is nominal

We all agree yes, that this is Adrian doing an incognito, secondary channel, where he can safely vent and curse about retro sh*t not working? 😂 Good video 🤩.

Okay that made me laugh out loud!! 😂

I use that PSU, it works great with a lot of retro consoles and provides a very clean source of power. Have a look into its model number.

While I would agree that it ls a clean psu...I'd have to do aton of testing of my own to confirm....maybe I should make one 🤔

I was screaming laser constantly while watching even though you replaced it I knew the new one was weak.

It was the region stuff that was tripping me up and stopping me from catching that the laser was weak , night trap is a great game to test with when it comes to regional settings , how did you like the 2 hour video? Too long?
@sergiofernandes20724 ай бұрын
Yeah I understand, but for me when I saw that it was intermittently loading Night Trap I just kept yelling weak laser lol as loading some and not others is a classic sign of that. As for the video I loved it, not long at all. I love that you're raw uncut etc. it shows how the real world is, not like some videos I see for example mechanic videos on cars and they make it look like it's a piece of cake and you go to try it and it's a nightmare. Great work man and awesome videos. Do you ever get any Sega Saturn or Dreamcast systems to work on? I would love to see videos on those too.

@sergiofernandes2072 thank you!! I'm glad you like the raw and uncut style....I feel it's more...genuine and shows what's really going on!! And if it was a 2 hour video, you know it took waaaaay longer to repair

The cap kit that the customer used didn't come with the correctly sized capacitors. While the value can be used, the correct size makes a big difference for ease of replacement.

Absolutely I agree but it'll work for his machine as the Japanese versions don't have shielding on the board(s)
