Update 252 has introduced the all new (sort of) MEGALOSAURUS to Ark: Survival Evolved. Today we'll be covering everything you need to know about the Megalosaurus, how to tame, strategy, and more! This is like a guide or a tutorial on how to find/knock out/tame/use the Megalosaurus!

* Raised proximity structure limit to 10,500 (the structure limit is actually working now with the new PhysX!). The Megalosaurus only spawns in caves, and only 4 wild ones can be up on a server at a time. I've seen 2 in the Central Cave (by the Volcano) on The Island map. They're completely worthless during the day, and even at night, they're disappointing. Despite being a purely nocturnal predator, they don't give their rider any sort of night vision effect, so you have to use a Torch, Shadow Steak Saute or Night Vision Goggles with them on a PvP server (where you can't just Gamma up). They're glowing eyes also give away their position at night. They're slower than an Allosaurus, but can turn on a dime. They have a base damage of 75 at night, which is even higher than a Allosaurus or Rex. They're awake between 21:50 and 5:15 in game, which isn't a lot of time to use them.

Mine was completely useless during the night as well, he wouldn't move any faster than a turtle, deficiency wouldn't go down, ran out of stamina in 5 seconds. Also beware, I don't know if this is a glitch or intentional but the 3 I had knocked out immediately woke up after it became night time and ate me and my quetz. LOL.

I'm so glad the Megalosaurus is finnaly in the game, he'll make traveling at night worth the hassle of not being able to see your hand in front of your face, which would be really nice on scorched earth because of how common direwolves are. you don't want to bump into one of those guys when your guard is down, they are SO hard to outrun

Ether 101 at the moment the megalosaurus is the only animal penalized in having a sleep cycle makes sense that all animals have this. instead of ever having a buff, just stick to a nerf when the animal is drowsy that way night time specialists have a role AND the game becomes more realistic. most animals should be asleep at night

It could be in an old cartoony style black and white form where you narrate stuff that happens. The voice is so nice, I'd watch it just for that. One time I did a raid cuz this guy was not at his base so I killed his dinos and took his stuff but that wasn’t enough. They should add that day dinos get a small debuff(maybe not at potent as the megalosaurus) and if you use he Dino too much during the night it falls asleep. Maybe adding sleep to the game.

Manuel Ignacio Caceres diamond butter has a good point. The sleeping mechanic is something that makes the megalosaurus unique and balanced. Adding the sleeping system would make the megalosaurus overpowered at night and it just wouldn't work with how the time system works in ark. Not being able to use your Dino for 12 minutes out of every day cycle (one day cycle being 24 minutes long) would really suck

I have heard the devs say that they are going to eventually add a sleep mechanic to other animals, so some will be nocturnal and some won't, you'll need to consider what animals you'll use to do certain things and how long that'll take
