PREVIOUSLY:
The Great Repliforce War begins as a rookie hunter named Double briefs X with the orders from headquarters. X is given the task to subdue eight high ranking Repliforce officials in eight different locations and stop their operations, amongst them is the traitor Magma Dragoon, who X decides to confront first.
X arrives at one of the enemy bases inside a Volcano. Avoiding fire balls and death pits along the way, X makes his way inside while fending off enemy Mechaniloids and Reploids. As the path ways
become more and more unpassable, X uses an unmanned Ride Armor to walk through lava pits and destroy obstacles blocking the way.
X finally reaches Magma Dragoon. He questions the traitor for his reasons of causing so much destruction. The former Maverick Hunter shows no remorse for his actions and provokes the usually cool-headed X into fighting him. A heated battle ensues between the former comrades, each of them giving their all in the fight. After the dust settles, X emerges victorious over a battered Magma Dragoon.
The fallen Reploid reveals that his obsession for battle against fighters he deems strong has caused him to walk a path of immorality. Magma Dragoon has always wanted to fight against X, he was used, or one could say that he allowed himself to be used in order to achieve his goal. Taking advantage of Magma Dragoon's desires, a mysterious man tells him to join the Repliforce and cause mass deaths to goad X to fight him. After having fulfilled his wish, the defeated Magma Dragoon meets his demise as X reports back to Hunter Base.
