Touhou 19: Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost - Nazrin Story

Nazrin is incredibly difficult to play as, plain, pure and simple. In a nutshell, she effectively plays with the same game plan as Sanae did, though she doesn't really execute it quite as well. Her main shot is direct but really not that strong, and her charge shot is a stronger blast... but it's a straightforward homing blast. And as you've seen with previous characters, homing shots in the game won't always go where you expect/to the needed target.
To make up for it, it seems the intention is to use your aura coupled with her Level 2 charge. Her aura is unique compared to the previous ones, cause this doesn't stay on you, it's actually a projectile that homes in on spirits. Her Level 2 charge then doesn't deal any damage, however what it does do is create a screen-wide wave that destroys any tamed spirits on the field. It is effective when it goes off... but that's really all Nazrin's got going for her.

She took a long L, and also Zanmu got a premium version of her ability, manipulate nothingness allows the user to manipulate also the free will of her opponent in some ways :( my poor Dragon just can’t be master mind for once 😢

Fun fact: Nazrin's profile in Akyuu's big book of lore states that she talks big but she's a coward at heart. So her ending being her noping out when she discovers that Hell is involved with this incident is a nice callback to that.

Good god Nazrin's shottype was a PAIN to use. Ik thematically it's fine but in a versus mode it's like asking to be hitted. Weird that ZUN never patched some buffs to her and....say, nerf Reimu cuz she's TOO op.

Nazrin had the funniest PvP niche for a whole 2 days tops. Turns out: her level 2 is incredibly effective against the Matriarchs and Orin, who all in that group except Saki is really strong, so she hard countered some high tiers. The problem? She had the worst matchups against everyone else. Unfortunately this didn't last for very long (people couldn't really get used to the aura bullshit to make use of her kit, particularly as people got better at the game) It was one of the funniest matchup spreads I've ever seen. You ever see a 8-2 matchup here and a 1-9 matchup somewhere else, with literally nothing even resembling even??

Surprisingly, Nazrin is far from the worst shottype in this game, despite having some very glaring faults. Her focused movement speed is the lowest in the entire game at a whopping 1.0; most shottypes since MoF onwards have had their focused speeds standardised at 2.0... However, she has an incredibly easy selection of enemies to fight, barring Rin in Stage 1; she hard counters Yachie in Stage 6 with her C2 ability, which when correctly stacked can easily wall and kill the AI, allowing for an early kill and largely avoid having to deal with her final spell. The key to understanding how to most proficiently use her C2 is that the shown circle expanding in a wave to instantly kill any activated spirits actually continually activates within the entire circle; this means that if you immediately re-scope after using a C2, you can then catch and instantly kill spirits that are closer to you that weren't caught initially. Ironically, she suffers horrifically in some versus matchups due to having a terrible Boss Attack that feeds gauge, and her entire toolkit of walling with automatic C3 attacks is nullified by Yachie's C2 erasing the yellow pendulums...

I love how for the longest time people have written Nazrin as being the strict type and constantly scolding Shou, when this game and the Cheating Detective Satori manga reveal her as a lazy shit who often gets told off by the latter.

Looking at Nazrin fights, it seems that her story is quite fair. The first three bosses can give good equipment cards, allowing Nazrin to deal more damage. Mamizou's passive card can also be helpful, erasing bullets when you get hit. The only drawback is Enoko, whose equipment card is not very great and her passive one doesn't help with Yachie.

Seems like most of your deaths are caused by the sudden speed change from focused to unfocused. Tbh that's my biggest issue with Nazrin, since you need to change gears a lot in this game, and not being used to your speed is gonna make things hard. I sorta grew to appreciate Nazrin in this game though. Taught me to change my strategies to fit whatever strengths they have. Very hard playing as her, but very fun to screw around with when you're done playing as OP characters. And well, in a PvP-like game like this, there are really no way you could ever get the perfect balance for all the character metas that can satisfy even half of your playerbase. Some characters are probably not meant to be the meta, and those who chose to main them are chasing that high of winning with them. It certainly felt that way whenever I get that win as Nazrin or even Orin.

Nazrin as a shottype is mid. Her speed is absolutely terrible. Don't get me started on her damage. It is comparable to being hit by a wet tissue. Her Level 2 and scope are average at best. They have some very niche uses here and there, but for the most part, pretty lackluster. She would've benefitted from getting a scope similar to that of Komachi's in PoFV. Another thing that sucks about Nazrin is that her earlygame is very jail-ly. Orin on stage 1 and Ran on stage 2 are unironically one of her hardest opponents. Fortunately, her lategame boss lineup is not too bad and is fine. Yachie's final, while not comparable to Zanmu's in difficulty, is pretty annoying to deal with, so players have decided to go for a strat to actually kill Yachie as Nazrin. You do this by using her scope and level 2s to pacify Yachie's bulky otters and kill them, which sends pendulums to Yachie's side of the screen. Combine this with her level 3, and this can create walls that not even the AI can dodge. Yeah, I don't got much to say about Nazrin that other people already haven't. She does have a few niches against the characters that spam spirits, but that's about it. Also your bomb being an extension of your scope is HORRIBLE here because instead it just goes after spirits too instead of after the boss or staying on you, and as such it does nothing useful with spirits on the field. And I don't have much else to say for this video in general. Not really much to talk about. I'm just a tad late because I had flights the whole day yesterday.

I feel like her charge 2 is fine, its just that her aura’s tracking is *disgustingly* slow because the clear obvious strategy here is to use her aura to track a bunch of spirits then use the charge 2 to detonate all if them resulting in an essentially screen clearing nuke If her aura was faster, then she have a really good risk and reward style, because shes so slow while focused and damn fast while unfocused, you have find yourself a good position to focus and let the aura track spirits, then pop charge 2 and clear the screen for free easy movement; shes *very* clearly designed to be a screen nuker who relies on them for survival, the only issue is that she is **WAY** too slow setting it up to be of any use, her shot is clearly meant to be a complimentary bonus and backup way of dealing damage given how piddly it is Her ex, boss, and spell attacks are still just complete shit though, so she would still mainly be a defensive character because she has no real way to deal damage to the opponent’s side, just stop them from damaging her
