If I keep headbanging to this tune, I'd broken my neck lol Man, I love remixes of old videogame tunes, especially the not-so-famous or obscure games, and you made plenty from both categories. I wouldn't even know those games exist were it not for you remixing them. And since most of them are computer games, I assume, it's no surprise few people know their names. Thanks for introducing us.
@StoneMcKnuckle7 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much! Actually this one was released for NES and SNES. Despite me growing up playing a ton of computer games the soundtracks never really stuck with me so I don't really do a lot of arranges from that platform. :(
@rasyidsurataruna46227 жыл бұрын
Stone McKnuckle I did say "most" for a reason. Is okay, I'm a console gamer. I know Megami Tensei II is a console game. Hell, the majority of the Shin Megami Tensei entries ARE console games. The only PC game tune that stuck to me is the Zoo Tycoon theme. Try remixing that lol Really though, ya did an awesome job with this one. Say, other than Undertale (I'd include Doom were if not for E1M1 being a classic tune), have you done remixes for the newer games post-2000? (By that, I mean the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era and beyond) I always wanted remixes from the Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku games. They have a LOT of good tunes, from the original game to the latest entry Kiwami 2 (yeah not out yet but I have faith) including the Japanese exclusives. I wanna request some remixes, but as I said, so many good tunes lol
@StoneMcKnuckle7 жыл бұрын
Ah, fair enough. And yes, I certainly have some WIP files based on tracks from "newer" games. Guilty Gear, Mana Khemia, Dungeon Fighter Online, Stella Glow, Disgaea... Unfortunately the newer games seem to get the more they seem inclined to do all-orchestral soundtracks and those are boring as hell IMO. Western games are particularly guilty of this. At the same time, that's what should make them worth arranging... but eh. We'll see. Don't be afraid to post some links. The least I can do is check the tracks out.
@rasyidsurataruna46227 жыл бұрын
Stone McKnuckle Well, there are western games that have diverse soundtracks. Killer Instinct, classic and Xbone versions; Wolfenstein The New Order (plus Old Blood and the upcoming New Colossus); DOOM; Quake Champions; Crash Bandicoot and Spyro; Cuphead with its old-school goodness; Deus Ex (UNATCO theme is badass); etc. Helps that the former 3 has Mick Gordon composing the soundtracks. He also did the new Prey, and boy... 'Everything is Going to be Okay' is the best tune I've ever listened to. I'm on mobile, so I can't. So I... have no choice but to list them all. And this is gonna be a LONG list, spanning three generations of gaming consoles, from PS2 to PS4. Sorry. I'll just list the best ones to me. Full soundtrack vids are available for all the games in youtube so you can check them out yourself one by one. -Yakuza 1/Kiwami, originally for PS2, remade for PS4: Receive You, opening theme (THE most remixed tune in the franchise, being used as a boss theme from 1 through 0, the latter have two remixes, and the PS4 spinoff Ishin also has two. Only the PSP spinoff Kurohyou/Black Panther 1 & 2 don't have them, and 6 has no remix because Majima Goro, the usual boss whose theme it belongs to, isn't a boss :( Kiwami 1 made a new arrangement dubbed Receive You [Reborn]), and there's a video where someone combined the original version with Reborn, username mo GX. Unrest (when you do a main story mission, sometimes this tune plays to accompany you. Makes you feel like a badass) remixed in Kiwami as Renewed Unrest, and in the prequel 0 as Unrestful. Funk Goes On (normal battle music against normal thugs, the damn catchiest beat to fight with) Intelligence for Violence (yet another catchy beat to kick some asses, theme for Nishikiyama Akira's goons), got remixes; in 3 as Indepence for Violence, and in Ishin as Innocence for Violence. Scarlet Scar (theme for Futo Shimano goons) Pray Me (boss theme for said character, Futo Shimano) remixed in Kiwami as Pray Me Revive Turning Point (Kazuto Arase theme, remixed Kiwami as Virtical Point and Turning Point, and in 3 as End Point) For Who's Sake (final boss theme, Nishikiyama Akira. Good GOD what an awesome tune) remixed in 0 as For Buddy, in Ishin as For Your Sake (ost 29, so ya can youtube it easier) and in Kiwami 1. Both the Ishin and Kiwami versions are THE best versions imo. -Yakuza 2/Kiwami 2, original PS2, upcoming remake PS4 (gotta admit, haven't been listening to these tunes in a while, so they're shorter): As a man, As a brother (opening theme song, remixed in Ishin as As a man, As a brave. Hopefully this gets remixed in Kiwami 2) Push me Underwater (normal goons fight theme, has a remix in Kiwami 2) Bad Fortune Flower and A Scattered Moment (Goda Ryuji boss fight, part 1 and 2 respectively) -Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan... it's a Japanese only entry, but a first for the PS3. Nothing good came to mind, since I rarely listen to them. -Yakuza 3, PS3 game: Fly, International version opening and final boss theme retitled as Fly ~In-Game Version~ I also mentioned remixes from previous games up above. Lyricism without Tears (boss theme, a goddamn epic one) -Yakuza 4, PS3: For Faith, install screen theme (yes, really. Only game series to have songs for it), it has four final boss remixes since there're 4 protagonists to play as this time. The lyrics are... typical Japanese broken English, but it's so good, it's charming lol The remixes are Four Face, Four Faith, For Face, and For Faith instrumentals. Japan and their word puns. There's a vid with a full mix of all 4 by username DerekVader -Kurohyou/Black Panther 1 & 2 are also Japanese only. All I know is that the composer is the guy who did Jet Set Radio. The most catchy tunes for me are THE NAKED PANTHER for Kurohyou 1, PANTHER IN THE STORM for Kurohyou 2, and the final boss theme for 2 which is also the opening song, Born to be Wild by Shonan no Kaze. -Yakuza 5, PS3: The Battle for the Dream (install screen theme AND final boss theme, just like For Faith. No remixes, still the same tune when fighting him) The Hearts of Theirs (main menu theme. Really. All games have badass main menu themes, but this one stuck with me) Both 4 and 5 have normal fight themes for each characters (except for Haruka in 5), but 5 have the better ones. Isolated Fight; Hailstorm; Affected Fight; and what a FUNKTASTIC Hit. Fullscale Offensive and The Place where I used to be. Both are used when it's just you against a hundred goons. Both Saejima Taiga and Kiryu Kazuma respectively used those tunes. I believe in you (a boss fight theme for Saejima Taiga. Haven't finished Y5 yet so I can't say much, but it's good) Receive and Slash You (so far, THE best version of Majima Goro's boss theme) -Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin, PS3 and PS4, Japanese only (most of the soundtrack names are in Japanese, so I'll add the numbers but the majority are kickass. It has two soundtracks, Volumes 1 and 2, with many listed here from V1, since V2 are just background/minigame tunes): I found the OST thanks to username Kanny Boy. I already mentioned the remixes. Innocence for Violence; As a man, As a brave; and For Your Sake. V1 Soundtrack #3 (fight theme against goons. Depending on the chosen fighting style [unarmed, sword, pistol, or sword AND pistol] the tune changes. Kanny Boy's vid have all four mixes in it. V1 Soundtrack #12 (apparently a normal boss fight theme, but an awesome track nonetheless) V1 Soundtrack #22, which is titled Ishin no Uta, or, Song of Restoration (install screen theme for PS3, since PS4 has none, and a tune that played during a story mission. By God, I love this tune, especially when the trumpets came in the middle of it) For Your Sake is V1 Soundtrack #29. V1 Soundtrack #35, a deleted vid I remember translated the title as Assassination of Bodhitsattva (final boss theme, one of the most epic in the franchises... and then Yakuza 0 comes along) -Yakuza 0, PS3 & PS4 in Japan, PS4 internationally, prequel to the entire franchise (until they decided to make another one with a new protagonist other than Kiryu Kazuma, if they make it so): Japanese only opening song is titled Bubble, performed by Shonan no Kaze. Reign (install screen theme for PS3, and plays during a late game fight as Majima. It has been remixed for that section, but it's not part of the OST. Usernames devilleon7 and TheEryk24 have videos of the game version. Receive You has two remixes for both Kiryu and Majima, who's a playable character this time. They play once you unlocked their fourth secret combat style. Receive You Tech Arrange for Kiryu, Receive You The Subtype for Majima. Yakuza 0 has five badass boss themes. Kuze Daisaku has two, Pledge of Demon and Oath of Enma (both listed as numbers 38 and 39 respectively on the OST) and TheEryk24 made a video for Pledge of Demon using tunes only used in the game. Video title is Kuze theme full version. Awano Hiroki's theme, With Vengeance. Lao Gui's theme is Archnemesis. And finally, Shibusawa Keiji, the final boss, gets Twin Dragons. -Yakuza 6 isn't even out yet in English, but the tunes are some of the catchiest. Can't list many since I don't wanna spoil myself too much: Brother, Brother, early boss theme. Bonds, OST #8 since the title used kanji. Boss theme. Town Bully, which I'm guessing is one of the normal goons fighting theme, might be wrong. Bloodstained Philosophy, boss theme. And one of the badass ones. The Way of Life. Final boss theme. And... that's it! Apologies for the long-ass list, but like I said, the franchise has plenty of good music.

Well I don't know. I think the sound quality of the track in particular could be improved, maybe also change some of the synth background to something better. I'm not gonna judge you either way though, Godzilla Unleashed wouldn't be as good as it is without the heavy-hitting soundtrack.

Dude, I've got to ask. How do you get such a clear, yet perfectly bass-y tone to your songs? I've been trying different mixing patterns, but I just can't find a way to make my music as clear and present as your songs are.
@StoneMcKnuckle7 жыл бұрын
It's funny you should say that since I redid my mix from scratch starting from this song to address precisely that problem... Always had issues with dumpy low-end because of the way I've configured the multiband compressor. The fault is entirely my own, too, as I was tired of having the bass pop only when it was playing the lowest octave, so I squashed the crap out of the first band to make it bassy all the time and then instead set up a very aggressive limiter to prevent it from taking over the entire soundscape. I've used this approach for a long time, so if my older songs are what you're trying to mimic here, that's your answer. For this mix, however, I tried to make the bass pop as much as possible without having it trample all over the guitar. I did this by removing all the distortion from the bass, adding a tiny bit of chorus to make it fatter, brought out the mids, compressed the shit out of it, and then boosted the compressed signal like mad. By itself this sounds completely insane, and is probably not exactly the ideal way to go about it, but hey, it works. After that I redid the multiband dynamics and set them up to not squash any band, or at least squash them as little as possible. That's what made the biggest difference. The end result is a warmer and less muddy mix.
@Celvaa7 жыл бұрын
Hm, sounds like a bit of work. So, what all vst do you use to do your mixing? Is it just the usual FL edits or do you use something a bit higher end, like Izotope Ozone?
@StoneMcKnuckle7 жыл бұрын
Yep, I use Izotope Ozone on the master channel these days. It's almost hilariously convenient. Honestly, you can do everything I'm using it for in this mix with the basic FL tools, but Ozone is way easier to use and has everything I need in the same place, so I certainly wouldn't want to live without it. Aside from that, I use the default FL tools for the most part, minus amps and stuff. I actually really want to upgrade Ozone and get Izotope Neutron at some point, but that's hella expensive and I'm not exactly rich at the moment so that stuff's going to have to wait.
@Celvaa7 жыл бұрын
I know how you feel there, money's a big issue with me too. Thanks for the tips though, i'll see what i can do with Izotope. Also, keep up the good work; I really love what you're pushing out. :P
