I know a girl who is pure-blooded mexican (yes, from mexico) and she got into columbia university (the Ivy in New York) on pure academic merit and won several scholarships. she proves that latinas (or whatever the term is) can and do succeed.

I'm Mexican and my mom didn't teach me Spanish because she didn't want me to get behind in school. People always assume I speak Spanish and its kinda embarrassing that I don't because I can't even understand my grandparents. She taught me English to be ahead, but I'm leading Spanish anyway right now so it all works out

"I was taught to be racist" Here is my problem with that phrase, he is a grown man. At a certain point you gain the maturity to make decision for yourself and to think independently. That excuse is valid, it's not that he was taught to be racist, he is choosing to be.

I totally agree with your statement. I know many people who have risen above situations that they were raised in like abuse, racism, and religion oppression. I myself have risen from the perception my grandparents had against homosexuality and proudly come out as a straight woman who 100% supports any type of marriage and relationship, despite gender. These people need to learn to rise above the influence, like someone would if they were under the influence of drugs or other things.

i'm from texas and honestly...the only rude thing, in this area, i've ever heard, was some dbag making comments about it being white man's time to show up for slavery when obama was first elected? i rolled on and stated, "well you owe 'such and such amount of money' on this harley davidson you financed. soooo. lets go ahead and set you a payment up". he got quiet. yeah. this guy right here worked for harley davidson financial services. you wouldn't believe the stories i heard about their ability to not pay. don't heap things on others when you, yourself are struggling.

OMG! I am a white woman and I am having a hard time getting by. I worry about stuff every day. I worry about wether I can pay my bills every month. It doesn't matter what color your skin is or what your religon is we all can end up struggle. And we all can get educated.

Now imagine that hard time of getting by… in addition to experiencing systematic racism, prejudice and stereotypes because of how you look, being looked down upon not only because you are struggling but because of who you are. It is not the same Gwen. Period. It’s not an olympic competition. It’s just the truth. It’s harder.

For now whites are the majority in the united states (I believe that's predicted to not be true in 2015 when the cumulative minorities will be the majority of people in the united states compared to JUST caucasians) but our country was founded on racism. With more generations and the advancement of communication-technology there are more opportunities to be educated and dispel these beliefs but they still exist--quite strongly in many places. Regardless of what we say or how we feel, race does exist in our society--it shouldn't--but it does. It's a socially constructed "truth" which will only go away if our history disappears and many generations pass/we are so threatened that we literally unite as an entire race/species to protect ourselves for the greater interest (that's some movie sh!t right there, so don't count on it). So I guess what I'm trying to get at here is that yes, racism and prejudice exist and they are terrible, sometimes unfathomable (in the form of hate crimes) but it is with education and a look into our history (not the one your parents taught you, or your holy book (although reading holy books is a great way to get history too!)) that we really begin to realize our place in it all and really understand what it means to be a minority or majority. The scales are tipped, and it's not fair but individually we can take part in changing that. I don't know where this came from, but I felt compelled to write it. Sorry if I offended anyone or if it doesn't make sense. I'm not trying to make anyone believe anything they don't want to believe, I just want you to think.

Something that I did notice is that the only black guy wasn't asked about his comment to the other black girl for calling her a "sell out" because she's dated a white guy? hows that being a "sell out" that's a little racist right there because not every white person is bad?? I saw stereotypes coming from every direction of the table. I agree that a lot of it is being uneducated especially when it comes to christian, and Britney they love to use the excuse that it comes from where they "live" but their old enough to understand that its ignorance that's passed on from another generation and that our society has grown to accept a lot of people. I also wanted to comment on something that christian said about Spanish not having the decency of "learning out language" why should we make them learn our language when we could have the decency of putting their language on things as well {which is what we've done} do you know how hard it is to learn a different language? its not the easiest thing to learn coming from a different country or if that's your native language why should we make spanish people learn English?

Many Black women and African Americans in general are doing well in their lives and shouldn't be treated this way. I'm African American, my parents are happy together, not on well-fare, not to lazy to work (my father always had a job from teen years to now), we live fine. The people in this episode just really shock me because I'm from Singapore, a multi racial society. I've been raised amongst people of different races and I have friends of many different races as well. It's a big part of being a Singaporean and people shouldn't be discriminated for their race or even just their skin tone. Even though in Singapore, racial stereotypes are still present, it's still not as prominent as the people in the show here have shown.
