Megamind was also often compared to despicable me because both were released in 2010. Obviously, Despicable Me became the bigger franchise.

I remember that ! Personally I always liked Megamind way more. Despicable Me is aightt but I never got the hype behind it

@@drewsaidthatI love both movies (honestly, I think Illumination in general gets more hate than it deserves, especially because of the new Mario movie which really turned over a new leaf for them by making them go from fun to super fun. I’d totally take it over that time in 2012 where they tried too hard to make The Lorax into a feature film starring Troy Bolton from High School Musical, Captain Underpants, Sonic the Hedgehog (and yes, I was thinking of casting Rob Riggle as either a bird or that hedgehog whom in the mid-late 2000s has been victimized/dehumanized by his own friends like Tails (re: the Archie Comics before issue 180) and Knuckles regarding not wanting to date Amy Rose or Fiona Fox but Rouge the Bat or Blaze the Cat instead, this making them all out of character save for maybe Sonic who at least has been given valid reasons to be angry at his own friends like in Sonic X (where he was Dark Sonic for a very brief period of time until we were made to believe the more violent Eggman that Sonic took it too far by turning into Dark Sonic), even though he should be free to consent even if it means forgetting dates with exes, kinda like the Jonas Brothers, but more on them later. And this is coming from someone who wants to make his own fully animated Sonic movie and loves the early 2020s Sonic movies.) and of course, Taylor Swift (at this rate, I’m gonna digress for quite a while. Unfortunately, for the people whom she dated including a member of One Direction who was underage at that time (lest we forget that Nicole Scherzinger (who is unfortunately the only one of the five members of the Pussycat Dolls who made it big while unlike Fifth Harmony, to try and succeed to outperform Camila Cabello) Nicole did the same thing to him when he was still a teenager and she was 30 and yet people treated her like the victim and him like a misogynist which is common for boy band members to be treated like save for Justin Timberlake even with his questionable relationships with Britney Spears and Jessica Biel), with the exception of Jon Meyer, they were treated like evil people, especially Joe Jonas similarly to how his brother Nick was treated with HIS breakups with Selena Gomez, for example, even after what she’s done with the overly unpopular/overshadowed Francia Raiza who almost died giving Selena her kidney and yet people act like Francia would play victim when she WAS the victim). And it doesn’t help either that despite his amazing reputation, Michael Sloan is one of the most prominent examples of these people who would jump on the Jonas Brothers hate bandwagon without realizing Demi’s issues like in “Demi Shares Horrific Camp Rock Incident” where he would blame seemingly innocent teenage boys at that time like the forgotten Sterling Knight and Cody Linley who was sadly Jake Ryan in Hannah Montana and David Henrie, instead of Dan Schneider or anyone like them, even though he’s best known for talking about all the trauma the minors in the 2000s & 2010s went through with Dan. I mean, then again, like Francia, Jennette McCurdy, Dan’s top victim, even to this day, is still hated because she’s not as famous as Ariana Grande and didn’t like Nickelodeon in general including its people like Jamie Lynn Spears and the rest of the teenage girls on set including Erin Sanders and Victoria Justice at that time whom Alexa Nikolas was a victim of. I hate it when Jennette and Alexa have to be negatively compared to the rest. And even when SLOAN did something right like try to protect them, Amanda Bynes, Liz Gillies and her husband who was a Victorious producer that tried to groom her sued him. I warned you that I would go completely off-topic, but I’m proud of what I said to defend the Jonas Brothers, Jennette McCurdy and etc.).

Most good cartoons don't have to be aimed at only one age group, it doesn't have to condescend to a viewer just because they are young. I look back at the concepts in the 90s Batman Animated series, jokes in shows like Dexter's Laboratory, and they were pretty sophisticated and could entertain a wide audience.

I really hope Megamind VS.The Doom Syndicate gets preserved so it could be shown as an example of how bad it could be when you make a half assed sequel.

The saddest part is we already have plenty of examples of half assed sequels failing. But these studios man. Sometimes they just can’t be bothered to actually put together something of worth

@@drewsaidthat And sometimes when they do their great projects get cancelled. COUGH! COUGH!!!! WARNER BROS!!! WILEY COYOTE MOVIE! And then there’s the times when they can’t make a great movie for an anniversary movie. I can’t believe Wish didn’t get an Oscar. It 100% deserves to win the Award for the worst Anniversary movie.

😂😂😂😂 I haven’t even seen Wish yet but everything I’ve heard about it has been negative. Hopefully Disney can start to turn it around this year

There is not even a best Anniversary movie Oscar award for rare, specific movies like Barbie and Wonka! They would be anniversary movies for Warner Brothers, because that turned 100 years old in the same year as Walt Disney.

Technically, it's not an actual sequel. It's a TV show pilot. This usually happens when DreamWorks turns their films into TV shows: they overlook details that anyone who's actually seen the original film would notice. When they did a show for "The Boss Baby," they changed Stacey's personality when they did a show for "Home," they made Tip and her mom a lot sillier than they were in the film, and when they made a series to "How To Train Your Dragon," they introduce certain dragons as if for the first time, even though they were referenced in the film in the dragon manual scene, and that's one of their more faithful shows.

I feel you on that. I guess that’s my issue though. Why half ass it when you could actually put out a real sequel and excite the fans along with the newcomers? I think that would have worked out great

@@drewsaidthat I think maybe it's because their TV studio and film production are technically independent corporate entities (it's something I remember hearing in an old interview about the "How To Train Your Dragon" series). The concept was probably pitched by their TV and streaming department, not the film studio.
