The reason why the space dad disguise voice sounded a bit like an old time mafia boss was because of the 1978 Superman movie. In that movie, Marlon Brando (who played the mafia boss Vito Corleone in the original Godfather movie), played Superman’s space/biological dad, Jor-El. And given that Metroman is basically a satire of Superman and Tighten was intended to be the next Metroman, having Megamind pretend to be his Jor-El/godfather, was kinda a funny reference for fans of the original Superman movie.

Not to mention, he knew Megamind had it in him to be a hero... he knew him as a kid back when he tried to be good, remember! The only reason he never became one before is because Metroman was always overshadowing him, so he gave up and decided to be a villain instead. Metroman decided, basically, to let Megamind take over and have his turn as a hero because he knew that's what Megamind REALLY wanted.

Maybe as a kid, Metro Man wasn't the best to Megamind - after all, he was rewarded for his behavior. But as an adult, he reflects on it, and he ends up believing deeply in Megamind later. Probably more than just about anyone. I like that Metro Man had his own arc.

@@jacksondavies3595 First of all, how dare you insinuate that Night at the Museum isn't a superhero movie, and second of all, it's a line from Shakespeare that people quote the shit out of that Night at the Museum used alongside a lot of other movies, TV shows and books. I said that it's up there with "Heroes aren't born, they're made" as a quote that's well known if you watch a lot of superhero genre because it's a Trope that is used in most cases when a character is thrust into the heart of the action or given power and responsibility they don't think they can handle as a way of spurring them on or inspiring them to rise to the occasion. In the Superhero genre that happens a lot. And third, Teddy says "Some men are born great. Others have greatness thrust upon them." to Larry not "Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them." which makes it paraphrasing of the actual Shakespeare quote and a moot point.

Never watched Megamind until a few months ago. I thought it was going to be an average movie, and it amazed me how GOOD it actually was, and incredibly underrated, when its one of the best animated movies i've seen. For me, top 3 is Shrek 2, followed by Shrek 1, and Megamind. So sad more people dont watch it thinking its just "bad guy turns good"

Yeah, this movie had the misfortune of being made after Sharktale and released at the same time as Despicable Me, making most people overlook it as just another genre parody. Luckily tho, nowadays, it has a pretty big following so there is some justice there

There aren't bad premises, there are premises that are badly executed. It is a "bad guy turns good" story, but it's everything else that makes the whole concept shine even brighter. The characters act with reasonable motivations, and Hal turning into a villain makes complete sense, he never was a good guy, and the moment he got powers and was unstoppable he was able to show what he was capable of. As the saying goes, power doesn't corrupt, it reveals who you are.

@@mena94x3 If you open "Stats for Nerds" and look at the "Mystery Text" line, its usually between around s:4 t:682 and t:683, use the period and comma keys on the keyboard to move forward or backwards by individual frames, you notice Metroman fade out briefly as if light is only now realizing that the guy is supposed to be elsewhere before he suddenly returns. To the eye when watching in realtime he appears to flicker and given Megamind's tech thus far you assume its just a quirk of the holo-displays. It was quite the nice easter egg :P

one thing that I think was fascinating. The Way Megamind pronounced words wasn't indicative of low intelligence or a lack of grammar, that is a phenomenon that occurs when someone has only really read certain words and not processed how they are normally pronounced, instead speaking the word how it is spelled. This occurs a lot with people that read books a lot, you will find that more esoteric words tend to be pronounced wrong as well.

Exactly, I loved this movie for showing a whiny "nice guy" waiting to get his complimentary reciprocated feelings and showing his true colours by how he reacts to non consequences. I found it very cathartic and I've known so many people like that.

Megamind came out around the same time as Despicable Me where it had a similar plot. But many ppl at the time assumed Megamind was a ripoff of Despicable Me. Therefore, this movie didn't get the recognition it deserved. But to this very day, it remains my favorite.

Fun fact if you go back and watch their banter bit for one frame metroman vanishes from his screen and can be seen behind megamind Also fun fact: the chango watch doesn't change your eyes. Bernards eyes are brown but megamind bernards eyes are green, and likewise the wardens eyes are blue but minion warden has brown eyes And roxanne's costume changes color slowly thru the movie. It starts red, then when she's dating bernard it's purple, and at the end it's blue showing that she is with megamind
