I know someone who applied to PT school and didn't get accepted by any of the schools she applied to. Don't know why. She has very high grades and has worked with PTs. She decided to apply to OT schools and had no problem getting accepted. At the time OT schools were a Masters program. They are pretty much the same Job. Now it's Doctorate. She is a traveling OT. She gets 3-6 month contracts throughout the country in the states she is licensed in. She loves it because she loves to travel. She says the pay is very close to a PTs pay would be but she has more versatility.

If you don't have a 4.0 can you still get in? my pre req GPA is like a 3.7 right now and hopefully it stays there after this last year of my pre reqs but I was just wondering what your input was on this
@JL-zy4sv3 жыл бұрын
You definitely don’t need a 4.0! If you look at schools you’re interested in on the PTCAS directory site you can see the average GPAs and test scores of students admitted to their programs. Most averages range from around 3.5-3.7 for GPA. If you are lacking a bit in the GPA area, I’d made sure you have good letters of recommendation, shadowing experiences, and research (research involvement especially was what made me stand out in the application process and gave me lots to talk about in the interviews!!)

Im Canadian and its super interesting to see how different PT school application process is in the US vs. here!
@sarahcoates99674 жыл бұрын
Sophie how is it different? Sorry im just curious
@Sophie-yk5mr4 жыл бұрын
@@sarahcoates9967 Well for starters it's a masters program here (M.Sc.PT) rather than D.PT, and you need a 4 year undergrad degree to apply. Applications vary by school but from what I remember from this video they mention "observation hours" which is not required for most of the schools I've looked at, though many will have volunteered at physio clinics and use that as a reference. Some schools you need to take a CASPer test to apply, but none I have looked at require the other test they were talking about (I'm thinking it's probably an American thing, we don't have SAT's or anything here either). Also most programs will be 2 years continuous and I think theirs is 3 years, likely because of the difference in degree type. Hope that eases your curiosity :)

hahah this is actually for grad school application! the college process is almost identical, except in the US people usually take more tests (ACT, SAT, Subject Test, AP) and take them more times each, write more essays specific to the college, and most people apply to between 5 and 15 colleges, so in that sense college application is actually a more cutthroat process, even if the interviews and importance of grades are the same.
