I'm currently waiting to get my first MS3 main board so I haven't had the pleasure of working on one of these yet, however since I have had experience putting many other circuit boards together, I have found that it is frustrating when a component breaks off while working with the board. I have found a good way to avoid this issue by having a hot glue gun handy and instead of installing a bunch of components and then soldering them at the same time, just put a few in and before you solder, dab a spot of glue on the parts as you go. This will hold them in place quite well. It will keep the leads from bending and or breaking of thereby rendering your precious part useless. It will also make the circuit much more tolerance of vibration should that be an issue. Another point to consider is the ICs, instead of soldering them straight to the board, use a socket. When all is done, install the IC and again dap a spot of glue on each end, just in case something goes wrong and it happens often. These IC's are voltage sensitive and take my word for it. Those IC Vregs CAN fail at which time it may take out some IC's . I have not seen the MS board yet up close and there are no schematics that I can find to inspect, particularly the Vreg section so I do not know if reverse polarity circuitry is designed into this system. Rest assure if it isn't I will attempt to use part of the proto area to add it.

For the heat sink, can you use a couple drops of thermal paste instead of sanding?

Were you able to use a standard soldering iron or did you have to use a micro soldering iron and or tips???

why are you soldering from the front. You are just restraining yourself
