Jeff, thanks for your videos; not just educational, but also funny. This my first year. You mentioned your candy canes at the end ... I have 6 on the left side of my yard lined up in a shallow arch about 3' apart. Using gardening stakes to keep them upright and 40lb fishing line tying them to each other and anchoring the end ones to the ground. Even with last nights storms (40 - 60 mph winds) they were still facing the same way. Just thought you may be able to use this idea. Keep up the good work.

Jeff, how do you store all of your props over the summer? Do you have a spare "truck trailer" behind the house? Do you have an underground cave? Do you store your props in the attic? Do you store them assembled? Do you break down each prop assembly and store them in their Boscoyo Studio shipping boxes? Have you done a video on clean up and putting things away?

I bought a 2nd house to put them in next door. jk. Most of them just roll up and either go in large trashbags or plastic bins or just sit in the attic. The arches are hung on the garage wall. I like to use stuff that can be stored easily. The coro props are are top of one of the other bins. Really, kinda wherever I can find space. :)

I use guy wires or rope in my static mega trees... just 1/8" nylon rope and cord adjusters basically a flat piece of plastic with 3 holes... and screw in ground anchors.. that way I don't have to be exact with the anchor placement... and I can just grab and pull on the rope adjusters to tighten or tweak as needed. and I made them 2 standard sizes so I dont have to match the anchor ropes to specific trees.. just long or short...LOL but thanks for the inspiration... maybe my next evolution of trees will be pixels.

Thanks for all the great video's but before anyone else spends time grinding out the smaller flange on the star/tree topper side, you can instead use the same size flange on bottom and top and then use a handy plumbing item called a reducer to adapt the larger flange to a smaller sized pipe for the star/topper. The reducer has male and female threads and is quiet the time saver! 🙂

What did you squeeze into/onto the floor flange? on your mega tree base? Also, is that floor flange? just screwed on top of the wood? I plan on making a base like this, but I think I'd like to drill a hole through the wood and have the floor flange on the bottom.
@CanispaterChristmas2 жыл бұрын
I use lithium grease on it every year. You can get that at the big box stores. The floor flange just holds the pole in place during setup. The strings of pixels actually serve as guy wires so the base ring is more important to keep secure. I increased the height of the tree so I added guy wires which now provides the needed stability.

What a wealth of knowledge. I've watched about 20 of your videos and ready to start diving in. Thanks! Honestly, I'm always trying new techniques, string lengths, props, etc. Some work. Some don't and I replace them. I know there are other controllers out there, but I like the Falcons, they do what I need and support is second to none. There is a little Mac vs Windows thing wrt controller brand because they all basically do the same thing - convert E1.31 to SPI. I'm working on a setup day video now. Let me know if that doesn't answer your question about connecting pixels to the controller. And Welcome to the channel!

@CanispaterChristmas4 жыл бұрын
The F16 has 16 pixel output ports capable of driving 1,024 pixels per port at 20 frames-per-second. If you run at 40FPS, that drops to around 640 pixels per port. @CanispaterChristmas4 жыл бұрын
That 's a long story I left out. I got some screw-in anchors, but we have so much rock just below the surface, they didn't work - couldn't get them screwed all the way in. I went with slanted rebar instead. It works, but I don't like it.
@jamram1094 жыл бұрын
Jeff, is it recommended to combine the grounds together between the two power supplies at the box? I noticed in the video one PS for injection and the other feeding the Diff board didn’t share grounds. Looks like ground sharing will occur later down the line when power injection occurs.
@CanispaterChristmas4 жыл бұрын
Technically, grounds will be shared on the mains side. However, if you use 2 power supplies to feed one string, it's a good idea to tie the grounds to make sure there isn't a chance of a differential voltage as the lights will flicker and, of course, don't connect the positives of 2 power supplies to the same string ever - always cut in the middle somewhere.

Hey Jeff, hope all is well with your family and display! I've run in to a problem that I'd like to get your thoughts on. I have 3 candy canes utilizing 40 modules each (2 strands of 20 from Wired Watts). I have F amps immediately after the first and second canes and all was well until the night before last. The first strand on the bottom of my #3 cane only has 15/20 modules showing the effect. The remaining 5 aren't showing anything and the second strand of 20 are all blue. To me, this seems like a bad module causing the data to not get through. Since I do not have any extra modules, I should be able to cut out and bypass the #15 module in the first strand correct? Unfortunately, I don't have any other way of testing the modules so it's gonna have to be the "cut and pray" method and hope that #15 is the bad module unless you have any other ideas I may try. Thanks as always for the help!

@@CanispaterChristmas so I would have a timer to turn the pi on then a timer to start the show? I know of course you don’t want the thing running 24-7
@CanispaterChristmas4 жыл бұрын
I leave the Pi running because it is essentially a computer and you don't want to just turn it off without shutting it down properly. For the controller(s) and power supplies, yes, you can just turn them on and off with a timer.

I was actually waiting for "And if I am extra lucky the neighborhood dog will wake me up by relieving himself on my face, showing me that he is truely concerned for my well being". Unfortunately, it never came. 😜

Man I can't wait tp start. It's too late this year so my 3500watts of C9's will have to do, but I'm excided.
@CanispaterChristmas4 жыл бұрын
Haha. You can get started this year. Just temper your expectations and yes, use the C9s. 😂

I've been watching Jeff's videos here for about a month, I've ordered and received the Pi4, Falcon F16v3, smart receivers, and strip pixels. I'm not expecting to actually have anything set up until next year (COME ON, HALLOWEEN!!), but I've been setting up a "test space" in the backyard (and shed, and garage, and tool room) LOL
