In this video I will show you how to test insulation resistance for electrical installations or electric motors. A megger is used as insulation resistance tester. An industrial motor should have high insulation resistance between winding and its core or body. If a motor have broken resistance between winding and core and motor body. Also a megger or insulation resistance is used to measure resistance for cables and other electrical components. Understanding megger testing is a must for an electrical engineer or an industrial technician or electrician. Insulation resistance testing is a must have skill for electrical personnel in industry.

Please explain: When you test with the two wires TIED your reading is 0.00 indicating a SHORT. When you touch the pair of test leads your reading is 0.00 indicating a SHORT. BUT, when you test between the windings on the motor and you get a reading 0.00 then you say its FINE? I THOUGHT 0.00 IS PROBLEMATIC INDICATOR OF CABLES TOUCHING EACH OTHER???

Did the 0.00 reading for the motor winding indicate that the insulation between the winding is compromised/failed . The other other result in the example with the two wires tied together indicated 0.00 reading and showed that there was a contact between the wires. I thought that the windings of a motor should never be in contact with the other windings in the motor???Please humble me and explain what im not seeing here

I want to use resistance meter but no too expansive to test insulation on my Prius motor mg1 and MG2. So can I use any insulation tester meter up to 1000v to do this test? Thanks

Sure, you can use any inexpensive one. Instead of 1000v, a 500v tester could also help. As long you follow all safety precautions.

Boss OL means Overload. So the motor may be bad

Who told you OL means overload? OL in measurement means Out of Limits. In other words it is a value beyond the instrument measurement range.
