It seems that after some difficult times WoW rediscovered its main strength: its impeccable art and design community, its capacity to tell an infinite amount of very diverse stories, and its ability to attract people from all backgrounds for all kinds of different reasons. To me, what has always made wow a special game, has been its community and how its artwork reflected society in many different ways. From people who make Arena kill-reels on youtube, in which they ocassionally spit on their enemies, to questlines that captivate you and have you in tears, to people helping a handicapped player reach max level, and late-night raid guilds: WoW just has it all.

Watching this I couldn‘t help to think back to when I started to play the game as 14 yo gay boy, as a kind of hideaway from real life judgement. Especially in those last years I noticed that I wasn‘t alone back then and it‘s super cool to see that the game now represents me and other queers as part of their identity.

I know it doesn’t mean much to cishet people, but as a pan person, it means a lot having little moments where characters will casually mention their same sex partners in passing and not making it a big deal. I remember reading Thomas Bright’s quest for the first time and having to reread the “husband” line. It feels nice being treated like a regular human instead of a spectacle or an oddity. Please keep making more of these subtle queer characters, they make me happy. Also, I head canon my vulpera shaman as a trans woman because she did start out a male character but I eventually switched her to female. Edit: seeing people say they’re not gonna play wow anymore because of the queer rep is actually a good thing, that means less gross people I have to worry about running into and less competition for mount farming
