Meghalaya goverment spokesperson and Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh said the central government has notified the BNSS, in which states need to transit from the old Code of Criminal Procedure to the new BNSS by 1st of July this year. Lyngdoh said that the cabinet also approved the guidelines for compulsory crime scene investigation by forensic teams. These teams would be at the crime scene of heinous nature, which is punishable by seven years of imprisonment or more. These guidelines are also mandatory under the BNSS, Lyngdoh said.
