I doubt Meg is 43% black, which would make her mother 86%. The Markels (Merkels) are 100% white (Irish, English, British Isle, +German) The Raglands are shown on census before 1860 as Mulatto, free, Barkeep (Bartender) & Barmaid (Waitress).
