Thank you for talking about comparison and highlighting that what we tend to see is highly curated. I used to love collaging (or glue booking?) with magazines as a kid and was generally just more creative in general. I've been trying to find an outlet for expression and creativity and am really interested in junk journaling and art journaling. I'm my worst critic though - I have such perfectionist tendencies that I hold myself back for fear of "messing up." It's so silly but good to hear journalers like yourself talk about these things. 💜

I love that the spread becomes such a different canvas by using the accordian journal, so lovely to see it all interacting as one spread but with such separate little sections. And I love that your video focuses on comparison too, must be something in the air! Loved seeing a peak into your sketchbook and how you use it for practice. It's so easy to watch videos and think it's perfect and we must be good at it every time, when like you say we just show our highlight reels and cut out whatever doesn't work! x

Can you show some journaling on a page in a junk journal? I don't understand why you would journal on it after you made it look so pretty.

How long does it actually take you to decorate a page? How do you decide between space to write and deco? I'm always worried I wont have enough room to write.

This took about 45 minutes! I don’t do a huge amount of journaling in this journal - I have a written journal for that. So usually I will only add maybe a paragraph or so. I’m mostly here for the decoration but I do like to leave myself spots for writing! If you’re concerned about space you could lightly add pencil marks where you want to write and then decorate outside that.
