Love your videos! You mentioned to transfer the ball out front. I was always told to funnel the ball and glove to your waist and then transfer. Your method does seem quicker. Thanks!
@MegRemSoftball4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Steven! You'll definitely have some funneling movements in your fielding motion. My biggest emphasis is making sure you eventually transfer out front opposed to taking the ball back by the hip or up by your ear to transfer.

How do you read hard hit ground softballs? They are so hard to predict, if they hop I usually step back but I still miss them because they are so unpredictable. What should I be doing?
@MegRemSoftball Жыл бұрын
Try playing to the right of the ball which helps reading the hops better

May wish to add technique for when not able to square yourself to face the incoming ball, as it is passing on your left or right at speed.

I really struggle with keeping my back straight when I go to field grounders. Any tips ?
@bowl82653 жыл бұрын
You have your glove out in front. How many balls are hit right at you? Maybe 1? So in order to move you must bring the glove up so why start with it out? I always bring the ball to the middle chest elbows out arm automatically goes to the correct throwing slot. To me it is quicker and arm safe as you engage the scapula.

When you are fielding square to the ball, what should the angle of the glove be? I've seen some instructors keep the entire back of the pocket on the ground, while others go all the way up to a 90 degree angle where only the top lacing of the pocket is in contact with the ground... thoughts? Great video!
@MegRemSoftball3 жыл бұрын
I always say fingertips down so it'll be more top lacing of the web is in contact with the ground.

question....if you are fielding a ground ball in the outfield (that got past the infield) do you use the same technique? Or is there a different way to approach if you are running towards it from the outfield?
@MegRemSoftball3 жыл бұрын
It depends on if runners are in scoring position. If there are, you'd field on the outside of your glove foot in order to keep your momentum going forward. I call these do or die ground balls.
@brianjewell28534 жыл бұрын
Do you think after the ball is fielded and on the throw that the right foot should be slightly behind the left causing your left shoulder to turn more towards first or target or right foot slightly crossing over left causing the left shoulder to turn to right field or away from target? It’s a slight move but has huge effects. I like right foot more behind left causing the body to turn more towards target but I see so many young players crossing right over left which to me this makes it more difficult to square up. Just thinking out loud. Thoughts?
@MegRemSoftball4 жыл бұрын
If you're talking about the footwork when throwing, yes - the right foot is behind the left. If the feet are too close together, you won't have control of your bottom half and won't get the power on the throw that you're looking for. Line up the left shoulder with your target and you're good to go.
@johnn6740 Жыл бұрын
@@MegRemSoftball I know this was an old comment but Id like some clarification on this (2:50 mark of the video): In the situation of SS/3B throwing to 1B , I agree with the right foot being behind the left to field the ball, but wouldnt it make more sense to field the ball more on the right side since your shoulders would already be turned toward 1B? By doing this, your shoulders are already turned to your target where you can just shuffle and throw. Hopefully thats not confusing the way I explained that. Thank you for all of your videos as my 3 daughters love watching them.
@MegRemSoftball Жыл бұрын
@@johnn6740 Thank you! If you are fielding right side of your body, your shoulders will be facing more left side of the field. You want to field more left side of your body because that's where your glove is and it'll help momentum.

My daughter is 14u. Plays 3rd. What size glove is best? 12.5 or 13
@MegRemSoftball4 жыл бұрын
Anything over 12" in the infield is too big. I would say stick to 11.5 - 11.75. You want to be able to transfer quickly - so less glove is better. Now, outfield, bigger is better. You want over 12.5' for outfield.
@jeffreykimes48053 жыл бұрын
@@MegRemSoftball 12.5'? That seems awfully big for MOST of the girls I'm working with, lol. Kidding. Great content, helping me with ideas for practice sessions for sure.

Great video! Please share your view on getting “sideways” to the target (shoulders in a line toward the target) vs chest pointing toward the target prior to the throw. Thanks!
