I had attended several events where politicians gave speeches. These were my first experience. Before the start of one speech the only passage to the restroom took me by where the politician was preparing. I stood behind a giant plant because I couldn't believe how he was acting or what he was saying. He thought he was a rock star. He made one of his people get on their knees and make sure his pant legs were perfect before he began walking. He was a congressman. I never went to another event.

I have to comment on this. A great friend of mine worked on a forest fire pumper truck in the early 80"s. They were tasked to park the truck on an old logging road and monitor the fire they were fighting. This area was contained but they were suppose to make sure it didn't flare up. Once in a while they sprayed water down the hill below them to keep the fire from moving up the hill. They were there for days. They even let one stump keep burning and cooked off it! One day a news van pulled up behind them and the reporter still in his suit and tie leaped out took a plaid flannel shirt out of a sack from a store in the nearby town and put it on. The camera crew set up facing the "cooking stump" and the reporter stood with his back to the stump and began to report that he was "On the front line of the devastating fire." My pal and is fellow crew laughed and made fun of the reporter. One pumper crewman grabbed a wire coat hanger and hot dog and went to the stump and started roasting his wiener. The news crew and especially the reporter got mad and moved on. Guess news reporting hasn't improved.

Shane Galvin from The New York Post wrote today that "using clothespins to cinch clothes is a standard television styling maneuver done in lieu of more traditional and permanent tailoring." Meaning this is not an uncommon practice. Perhaps we could liken it to when female newscasters wear Spanx or perhaps have had some buccal fat removed from their cheeks. (I mean, someone's chin is looking a little pointier these days....)
