I love the band work. At the Start Clinic in Tempe AZ they made training videos of myself standing tall at 5'-8" with thick socks and another pro at 6'-3". They had set up as if we were making a video game while serving off of presure plates. While warming up I mentioned to the physical therapist about some minor shoulder issues I had he came back with a piece of surgical tubing and few exercises for me to do. 20 years later that is still a part of my bag check. Since then I've had added a light weight in the racquet dropped down position gently stretching my shoulder then bringing up in tricep extension to long axis internal shoulder rotation, then repeat. Thanks again

Gosh you explain things so well! I've watched my share of tennis videos and yours are the easiest to understand with good concrete tips. I've learned something useful from every one of your videos I've watched. I'm probably a 3.5 player and I think why your videos resonate with me is that you make me feel okay with my level. I'm 71 years old and I don't think I'll become proficient at hitting three types of serve with the same ball toss anytime soon. A more effective and practical ball toss for me is to use a different toss for different type serves. I can improve my game a lot quicker than trying to emulate what top players can do. I'm about to go play doubles with my old man group in a bit and I am committed to not hitting a bad serve toss and let it drop!

I was a tennis flunkie in High School (back when Arthur Ashe was coming up) & I served terribly. I picked up the game again in 2019--I had to hit left handed due to a R wrist injury--I learned a kick serve to gain a reliable second serve that I could also use as a first serve. These are great tips for beginners like me.

So now this is my third videos. There is a light bulb that just lit up in my (empty) knoggen. Albeit 20 years too late for me. This is just a really deep analysis and explanation (of the serve). It addresses the "why". Well, I suppose being in the top 30 WTA helps.

Sorry my last comment was pretty long so I wanted to add a separate comment to go along with your great warm up, and serve video. After going through everything you mentioned and at the end of the session I like to add a little mental pressure. I give my students 6 balls they serve a game out altering from duce to add court if they make the serve they win the point. The catch is they only have 6 balls if they run out of balls they lose. If they get the first two first serves in and are at 30 love and have only used 2 of the balls they go a little more aggressive, perhaps a bigger or more aggressive slice on that 3rd ball. The opposite if there at 30 love and onlly have 2 ball left or worse if they thrown in a dbl.I even use this in my own practice session, helping to transcend practice to match play. Keep up the great videos

Both comments are great! I'll shamelessly steal that serve game! It's so difficult to replicate the "real match" pressure but at least that way they have to think about the score and how that affects the next plays!

No wonder 1GA is always hitting the net on her first serves. Her second serve is more effective and accurate! She must be following your technique of serving better second serves in her matches. And voila! She is winning most of the time. As an amateur casual player, I really thought that stronger first serves are very important. Your video enlightened me. Warm ups are indeed important in any sport. Nice tutorial!

Yes, if you hit 2 aces but double fault 10 times or give your opponent too many looks at a weak second serve you still lose.

If you look at the pros they can serve all three serves from a 12 or even a 12:30. So yes, I'd say you can hit all three.

My first serves go in and are pretty effective: 3.5 Players struggle just to get it back. But practically all the serves go to the same location: down the T on the Deuce and wide on the Ad. This is not necessarily bad as it goes to the returners backhand. It will occasionally go to their forehand side, but that is not my intent; it is accidental. Any reason why serves would always be going to the same location?
@MeikeBabelTennis
@MeikeBabelTennis 2 жыл бұрын
It's the position of your racket face as you make contact. You're giving me a great idea for a video talking about how to place the serve. It's literally just single digit degrees that determine whether a ball goes towards the alley or to the T.
@Better_Call_Raul
@Better_Call_Raul 2 жыл бұрын
@@MeikeBabelTennis Yes, I suspect I am contacting the left side of the ball and hence all my flat/slice first serves are going down the Deuce T... My temporary workaround is to change toss from my usual 12:30 towards 11:00. I find that this toss change causes it to go wide on the Deuce. Probably because it is more difficult to contact the left side of the ball when tossing more behind your head... One idea for video lesson is to demonstrate the difference between a flat serve wide to the Deuce corner and a slice serve wide to the Deuce corner. Most instruction only demonstrates the slice out wide without comparing it to the flat towards the same Deuce corner.
