The change from PU midsoles (as on the desert version) to EVA was likely a conscious decision. PU has a tendency to disintegrate after prolonged contact with water/humidity. EVA does not. Speaking from experience. Dank je voor de videos

They have a little elastic pouch on top of the shoe lip... Does anybody have an idea what the initial purpose is? What would or could you put in there while hiking the jungle?

I believe it's to put the remainder of the shoelaces in. so they won't get caught on branches etc...
