Excellent review and cymbals overall! I own (22” Ride, 19” Crash, 10” Trash Splash) and have owned (18” China) quite a few of the cymbals from this particular range, and have been nothing short of impressed by all of them. One of the bands I’m working with has a full assortment of them as well, and they have been fun to work with, especially the 22” Crash Ride and 18” Trash China. Meinl really pushed the boundaries of what sheet bronze (B10, in particular) is capable of with this series, and they should absolutely be commended for that. 🙌
@effusivefugitive3 жыл бұрын
I was with you until the last sentence. These are great for the price, but Paiste is completely unassailable when it comes to sheet bronze. Legendary drummers have been recording and touring with 2002s - sheet B8 - for 50 years now. I'm glad Meinl is making an effort, though - Paiste isn't cheap and competition is always good.
@SmangItDrums3 жыл бұрын
@@effusivefugitive Paiste is definitely at the forefront when it comes to experience with sheet bronze, even though Meinl came out roughly around the same time as Paiste did. Paiste caught on much quicker due to their cymbals being used in early rock, punk, and metal genres. Meinl took longer due to being more of a niche player. With that said, Meinl’s application of B10 is a first in its own right, something that Paiste (having done B8 and B14 for years) hasn’t done yet.

I have a nice set of these with my kit, and I love them. The only thing I found is that the 22” crash-ride cymbal was a much better crash than a ride…..too much wash. So, I got the 22” ride only to finish things out. All is well.

I had a bundle set of these and they sounded great and looked stunning. Unfortunately, I found I wasn't using them and sold them fairly soon after I bought them. Cos shortly after getting them I also bought a set of Paiste red coloursound and they went better with the look I wanted for my kit at the time. I didn't see the point of keeping them in a case not being used... So someone got a bargain. I would recommend them though.
@enzotabuena5662 Жыл бұрын
Hi, to all who have used this set. How is it live? Is it just dry enough and not too washy? I'm planning to get this set but due to poor technique I hit hard on my right hand which then tends to have the cymbals overpower the rest of the kit when I'm in "the moment". I'm looking for something that has a good decay like close to zildjian K custom or even A custom series. Thanks!

I have the 12" trash splash & yes, it is dry, dark &, of course. trashy sounding. It has a smooth & even sustain & dies out quickly

The 19" crash is so unbearably loud and requires a lot of force to activate that I got rid of it swiftly. I really don't like the feel of thick b12 alloy for crashes. My Brann Dailor Ghost Ride and 18" China however is awesome.
@Southboundpachyderm Жыл бұрын
yeah, these are fuckin garbage imo unless you have no stick control and hit like the hulk. No articulation to them at all and honestly they're not even tonally good for metal music which is way way way fucking better sounding with brilliant cymbals. But that requires people to learn that you're supposed to wack the fuck out of the drum. You're not supposed to wack the fuck out of the cymbals. At least unless you wanna just never be able to play in any live musical setting and just rock out at home with headphones. Then I guess these are worth. I just think for the price you could spend the same amount and get way nicer cymbals that aren't an inch thick and tonally dead.

@@stefanaleksic4113 Is this a thing? So not recommended for heavy hitting doom/death?
@Southboundpachyderm Жыл бұрын
@@Nachtdwaler Lol actually most really heavy metal bands are recording on thin brilliant cymbals like Zildjian A customs. Thinner cymbals in general cut through mixes better. These are a gimmick and they will not sound good on a recording unless you hulk the fuck out on them which you should not be doing anyway. Metal drummers make it LOOK like they're wacking the fuck out of them, or they're sponsored enough to be able to replace cymbals for a massive discount when they crack through them from hitting hard during live shows. however, as a drummer you NEED to learn to hit the drum heads hard, and hit the cymbals lightly. You shouldn't even be hitting down through them as much as you're glancing off of the side and down them. Dont ever think you have to beat the shit out of and abuse your drums/cymbals for them to sound good or for you to be a good metal musician. Eventually you'll end up at a point where you're just bleeding money because you're hitting everything way too hard and it makes playing with you live impossible when the cymbals have to be hit so hard to be heard. These are junk totally and completely marketed to sucker parents and kids who don't know better out of hard earned money. Get a nice set of A customs or any other brilliant finish line of cymbals and pinch your pennies on the kit instead. Pedals and Cymbals are where you want to be more careful because theres a fuck load of just overpriced garbage marketed towards new drummers and the people at guitar center are not your friends and are not trying to sell you the best product. They're trying to make a commisssion because guitar center fucking sucks. Go find a local drum store and get to know local drummers who play in local bands. Those guys are your friends and they care a lot more about selling you a good product because they get paid an actual wage and aren't depending on commission to live.

The 18" China is a killer. Lovely high whip at the peak and a short decay. A permanent feature of my setup. The 18" crash, however, was disappointing. Short hissy wash at the end, hardly any sustain.

I have a set of these and I absolutely love them, I think they sound very good for everything except for jazz. I would like them more if their sound was a little less loud. But for the money, you can't buy anything better.

Prefacing this all that it's just my subjective opinion and I don't knoiw anything about your experience so I'm just gunna generalize here and if I'm being retarded, feel free to tell me so: But, yeah you can find WAYYYYYY better cymbals for the price in just about every single brand line. These are fucking garbage can cymbals in my experience and beeing that they're a medium dark cut, they're WAYYYY too quiet for modern metal drumming unless you hit like the fuckin hulk for some reason. Get A custom starter kit for same fuckin price if not cheaper considering they discount on reverb all the time. Save yourself a ton of embarassment around experienced drummers and get a cymbal you can play anything with instead of a thick ass gimmick that focuses more on suckering young kids who think it's more metal/punk/etc to have "more black" than sounding good. But hey. To each their own. I bought into the stupid ass metal joey jordison/lars ulrich stick shit when I was young and no one was ever going to convince me I wasn't better in every way for having more "metal" sticks.
