I love seeing so many drummers who embrace ambideterity. Wish I'd practiced it more when I started to play.
@jaquilleoneil72823 жыл бұрын
im 29 years old and new to drumming, one thing I've realized is I'm about 20 years behind on a lot of drummers. I'm taking the approach of "master what's needed" right now. If I get comfortable playing right handed with match grip. I may move to ambidextrous practice and learn traditional grip. Do you think this is a good approach?
@drumrnva3 жыл бұрын
@@jaquilleoneil7282 Sure it's a good approach, but go ahead and play left hand lead at least part of the time if you can. I saw Kenny Aronoff in a drum clinic waaaay back in the late 1980s. He was experimenting with LH lead even then, and admitted it didn't feel "natural". Just cue up 'one headlight' by the Wallflowers, or an AC/DC tune, or something similarly grooving in 4/4, and just play it. It still feels awkward to me, but it feels WAY less awkard than six months ago. BTW, whatever time you started playing is exactly the right time. You're not behind. :)
@janneheikkila39133 жыл бұрын
@@jaquilleoneil7282 I recommend you stick to match grip, if "master what's needed" is your mind state. It's like teaching your left hand to run first, then cripple it and start from crawling phase. Traditional grip is not a "must have" to play the drums. I bet you get more actual results and have more fun sticking to match grip.
@jamisonandrewmanhorvaththe11243 жыл бұрын
i’m sorry, but playing 1 2 3 4 on the hats does not classify as ambidexterity, at least to me. I assume you’re talking about that?
