My favorite on the list is the Byzance 18" Brilliant China, it really comes through the mix and I always love thinner cymbals. To be honest though, my favorite MEINL cymbals ever are the Byzance Extra Dry series. I love the look of them and I love the dryness about them that just gives them such a unique sound and feel.
@michabiernacki22315 жыл бұрын
I own (and love) the 20" pure alloy medium crash and i think there's one important thing to mention about it. It does have some nasty, high overtones in the decay, right out of the box, but they really do vanish after about 15 hours of playing. Don't let that discourage you when you first try it out at a music shop, or when your basist complains about it on the first gig you play... like mine did.

You just about sold me on the Byzances. I've been looking at getting the 19" Traditional Medium Thin and 20" Traditional Medium crashes for a while now. I want the 23" Traditional Heavy Ride (I'm a fan of big heavy cymbals) but hearing the Polyphonic ride used in some grooves I haven't heard it used in yet really makes me want it. My ideal Byzance combo as of right now would be 16" Hi hats (I made these myself by pairing a Pure Alloy crash (top) with a Byzance Dark Crash (bottom) 19" Traditional Medium Thin Crash 20" Traditional Medium Crash 20" Dual Trash Crash 21" Polyphonic Ride OR 23" Traditional Heavy Ride.

Lovely collection of cymbals there! I’d love the polyphonic ride so may have to get one. Some cymbals I have which are perfect for rock/metal that you missed out were: Mb20 crashes! I’ve got an 18”, 20” & 22” Heavy Mb20 crashes and these are the best metal/rock crashes ever made by Meinl in my opinion. These are now branded the Byzance Brilliant “Heavy Hammered” rather than Mb20 now, and are essentially exactly like the Mb20 line except for the logo! Classics Custom cymbals are perfect for heavy rock/metal and they need some love. If you want a pingy ride and cutting crashes these are amazing. I’ve got the 18” China, 14” Hats and 20” Ride and they are really great. Any of the Byzance Traditional cymbals work perfectly. I’ve got the 24” Ride and that’s an incredible cymbal and one of my most cherished cymbals (it’s a beast to crash on)!

It really is the best crash in the world it is bright but still dark enough to sit in the mix but also bright enough to cut through the mix. I just spent some time with it today and just like Gabe said "holy crap" is it good. I know that it's very expensive but if you are serious about your sound and have the money it is worth it. I have been saving up for about 4 years and it was worth it. My guitar player just about 2 hours ago asked me what in the hell did you change on your kit because it sounds incredible. Whether you have bright or dark cymbals this crash will work for you. Especially if you play heavier music

It's beautiful and it sounds just like you expect a crash to sound I don't know if you can tell but I am excited about this cymbal. It may not be for everyone but it does not disappoint@@st3929

I used to play the 20” traditional medium but it was too ringy. I am trying to get the 18 traditional extra thin hammered as a main crash. Secondary is the 18 jazz extra thin which is AMAZING. Byzance sand hats, extra dry splash, extra dry ride 22 (want vintage pure 22 someone trade me or buy lol) and 20” extra dry china, bullet stack. 20” trash crash for fun too
@andyham60945 жыл бұрын
Logan Kessler yeah same here. I love mine but it’s not as responsive and is a ringer for sure. A great crash for the drummers who bash quarter notes on the crash as a rock drummer since most rock drummers swear by this crash. I realized 20’s in general for my style are a little too bulky and big and ring on forever so I switched to 18 inch crashes. I have the 18 inch pure alloy on my left side and the 18 inch meinl traditional byzance medium thin crash as my main and they are PERFECTTT. 18s all day for me.

Andreas Breitwieser yeah it’s all preference. Too bright for my taste. Imo meinl traditional series are the perfect balance between bright cutting and dark characteristics. They are still bright enough and powerful to cut through any mix but like he said it’s not ear piercing and it’s still a dark cymbal being a byzance. They are super versatile and get super loud when you bash them and feel like butter but they are also super dynamic and responsive when you want them to be. Just the perfect line of cymbals for me personally.
