We asked Meinl Cymbals artist Navene Koperweis to write four metal tracks for Meinl Cymbals artist Jerry Roe. Jerry is one of the absolute top call session drummers in Nashville, and so hearing a song for the first time and having to track drums to it quickly and convincingly, using the Nashville Number System as his guide is what he does every day. This year, Jerry was voted the Studio Drummer of the Year by the Academy of Country Music. He has been on more country albums than you can count, including Luke Combs, Hardy, Morgan Wallen, and many, many more. Jerry also records and tours with his wife Buick Audra in a very heavy post-metal band called Friendship Commanders and has always been a fan of heavy music. So needless to say, he was more than willing to take on this particular project and let us document it. Navene Koperweis is one of the most talented musicians in metal music today. He came to prominence in a bands such as Animosity and Animals As Leaders. Today Navene is the musical mastermind behind Entheos, the band he’s in with his wife Chaney Crabb. Not only does Navene play the drums for Entheos on record and on tour, but he writes and records all of the guitar and bass for the band. So here is the first of a number of videos from this session. Enjoy!

Jerry's a beast, and so is his band, Friendship Commanders. Anyone living in the Nashville area should check them out live as soon as they can

It’s also well recorded by Navene himself, where credit is due.

This is so fucking sick, I knew Navene was a freak of nature, but Jerry Roe might just be pushing that too. Also to add I’m autistic and I drum, seeing the visual that Jerry put up of his writing system really spoke to me, as I completely visualise things differently. So this whole video has been an absolute blessing to me, and I’m really thankful to meinl & the guys for putting this together. You just figured me out a brand new way to learn!

@ nah you’re awesome for doing this and I’m thankful. Seeing people like yourself and Navene put yourselves out there and show us insights like this is really humbling, I don’t think you’d see this in a lot of other places than the drum community. The fact that everyone wants to see everyone level up and do well, whatever standard they may be at, is just awesome to me and to be part of that, I’m just grateful. Awesome new record by the way my man, hope all is well your way!
