Bro you play awesome. I think you didn't have to play that backing track - just the udu itself would sound great. I am considering buying one. There is a gold version and white version. One uses rawhide another fiberglass. Any idea about the differences? Your seem the gold version (the patterns are gold color). Can you play the bottom and the skin head both parts?

The gold model has the natural skin head on the small drum head which has a real problem staying in tune because of humidity . the bottom is just a thinner layer of fiberglass . Now the white version of this drum has a fiberskin small head and will not go out of tune and you can poor a small bit of water inside of the drum for the sound you hear in the video .

3:20-3:27 very nice. The split finger technique really opens up the possibilities on the ibo! Thanks for sharing this terrific solo. If I may: it appears you have a mic attached - what mic are you using?

Very nice playing! I have my Udu for at least fifteen years. Unfortunately, it has relatively quickly become deco object, because the small skin can not be tuned or reasonably fixed. Meinl has already sent me many years ago a replacement fur - unfortunately also without success! I soak the fur in water for a long time before mounting. Then I try to pull it as tight as possible over the opening, while another person tries to tighten a string (I have also used wire, leather cords and cable ties) around the skin. The skin then also sits nice and tight and can dry so. It then takes only a few minutes while playing until it loosens again and loses the tension. Sometimes the skin already loosens during drying. Once the skin is loose again, it flutters with every bass note with an ugly noise. 😖 Without a reasonable way to tighten the skin, the Tri Sound Ibo (ID3GO) is unfortunately unusable. I wish I had bought the version without the skin back then! Maybe someone here has an idea how I can fix the skin so that it stays in tune. Until then, I will continue to use it as a decorative vase...

When you reinstall the small drum head first apply white or yellow wood glue to the rim of the drum, let it set up a little . make sure that the skin is not to saturated with water ring it out and blot it with a towel . Use a large zip tie don't tighten it all of the way pull the skin equally around the sides tighten the zip tie a little more pull the skin tight and tighten the zip tie all of the way.. Let the skin dry over night . If the skin ever loosens up from the humidity take a hair dryer and heat the skin up but don't get to close to the skin stay about 12 inches away and don't get it to hot .
