Back when the word Meir didn't strike fear into the heart of man and make him shudder uncontrollably.

Just brilliant. I was a Meir lad from the early 40's until about 1960, and remembered all your old stills. Thank you.

Brilliant. I was born in Meir in 1941 and lived there till 8 years ago. It brought lots of great memories back. Thank you. Valerie Edwards was Whittaker.

I have a complete car journey filmed by me sitting in the passenger seat of my late father's car as he drove from Blythe Bridge via Meir and Normacot to Longton and back via Dresden and Meir Heath, in September 1989. I will try to transfer it from my original vhs and post it on youtube soon. Really enjoyed this :-)

The way back must have been B5038 (or B5037 or whatever it was back then), A5005 and B5029.

Can anyone remind me what the name of the large motorcycle shop on the Broadway was? I seem to think it was Fred Holcroft?

What a surprise seeing ths here. I lived at Boundary (near Cheadle) as a kid, and each Saturday saw a bus ride to Longton (what a hole) and back, for the weekly shopping. Passing through Meir, of course. It's changed a lot. We moved away in '65.

Was village life different then?

You had the Cheadle-Cresswell line connecting to the Crew-Derby line. It’s now turned into a greenway.

What was it like before that? Congestion was probably just as bad as today, if not worse. Plus, what was the road layout like?

I do hate roads, traffic and the fact that they're ever increasing. I haven't been to Meir since the redevelopment, but it doesn't look improved.

Remember watching battle of Britain at the Broadway and my parents pet shop and off licence needn't have been knocked down as the D road never ended up that far across...its just a car park now 😩
