Guys, Mels powers accelerated beyond time control. When they went through the portal that stripped their powers, hers came back as an Advanced Version of freezing. She can now control the time of the individual molecules, speeding them up to produce friction and heat, and slowing them down to the point where there is not friction, thereby rendering the molecules immobile, or frozen. I love how each of their powers grew and changed after the portal and it gives them a lot of room to grow over the next seasons. I REALLY like this show and I know it’ll never be the original, but let’s give them a chance just like we gave the original show a chance.

My theory is that she can control time on an atomic and subatomic level. Maybe she's able to separate time from our general understanding and focus it on one object or thing. She can speed up time so much in an object to where it produces heat as well as slowing time down so much in an object to where it freezes. I think that it's actually a pretty new take on time control.

Because they slow down molecules, and powerful demons they can’t freeze the molecules all the way. That’s why when Piper’s powers evolved she just learned to SPEED UP molecules

People really hate Mel's power because it's not time related... So, I am going to explain my theory why it makes sense. This season, they went more in depth in magic, making it look more complex. So instead of basing the powers on one simple concept (time, movement or emotion), they based it on a concept set up in the first episode of the first season: there powers develop from their personality traits and what they need. Mel had temporal stasis because she was a control freak, as explained in S01E01, however she has grown from that. Mel's arc this season is really about finding herself, and exploring multiple sides of her personality. She comes to accept her duality (the rage/anger and her fear/need to control) and become a stronger women, and her own power. Due to this duality, she gains a power that allows to control temperature, going from cold (fear, control) to heat (anger). I could also explain Macy and Maggie's powers in relation to my theory, but this video is about Mel :p

Macy's a complex character with a lot of archs, but to name a few: her struggle to connect to her sisters while keeping her independence, her refusal to loose control, not accepting her own desires, and many other characteristics. I believe that her telekinesis is tied to the fact that she always keeps herself under control, and therefore she's also able to keep "the world" under control. Her new power that can basically keep people from moving might also come from one aspect of her self-control: keeping her emotions bottled. Her demonic powers are more difficult to connect to her personality since I would connect the "evil sight" to a high ability to "put yourself in someone else's shoes" and pyrokinesis to someone who was more "fiery" (aggressive, impulsive). In my opinion, her demonic powers might be used to keep the story moving and to add one more struggle to Macy's storyline which is "what would a powerful being with a high intellect and a lot of self-control would do if given evil power?". We see Macy throughout season 1 trying to keep her demonic side in check while at the same time refusing to strip herself of the powers. Also in the last episode of Season 1, the Source is making her show her insecurities and she shouts to her sisters "you're trying to take away my power". This shows that she feels the need to be powerful and that her ambition is greater than might seem at first. When in season 2, she comes to the conclusion that her power resides in her good/witch nature, she asks Abigael to strip her power, showing a much more humble side to her. It is also true that she's the one sister who took more time to accept the power of three back, and its innate sacrifice, due to the fact that she's not sure if she wants to loose her sisters again or if she will loose herself in the sisterhood. However she ends up accepting it because she realizes that "they're stronger together" and that "nothing is stronger than their sisterhood", a speech that was never given to her as a child unlike Mel and Maggie. I could spend days talking about Macy as she's such a complex character and her powers are a very good metaphor, but I think I've said enough 😂

In the first season, she had already acquired other powers related to time, such as speed and aging or rejuvenation of things. I didn't understand why they changed that. The new powers should remain related to time, such as trapping someone in a time loop, rewinding time for a few seconds (if someone holds a knife and throws it, the knife goes back to the person's hand, for example). And she is the one who should have the power of premonition, to see what happens in another period of time. Not Maggie.

I love the OG Charmed (specifically Piper) just as much as the next guy, but the way a lot of y’all are dogging Mel’s powers is ridiculous. Of course they didn’t want to copy the OG show to a T, and this IS how Piper’s powers worked in essence. That’s how she got the ability to blow things up, speeding molecules up. She froze by slowing them down. Mel does the same thing but magic in these shows is unique and expressive of the witch, 1 power will be expressed differently based on the witch. It’s like singing, or dancing, or running. 5 people could be doing the same thing but it will look/sound different all 5 times

StephenHeart season 2 wasn’t that great to be honest. It was better pace wise than the first season which was really really rushed but season 2 was very directionless, dragged a lot of the story out, a lot of filler episodes, and the writing was inconsistent in certain parts.

I remembered Piper blowing up the Warehouse entrance with a powerful explosion before she faced the Furies. Mel on the other hand took so long in trying to open the locked door while searching for the darklighter container. Haha. And Piper can freeze and explode with no need to channel too much time. Piper's powers i think was explained as molecular speed manipulation. Stopping molecules-simulates a freezing time effect - refer as stopping time during salem times. They have no idea what molecules are. Slowing molecules to the point there is no movement, creating absence of heat-simulates cryokinesis or literal freezing objects-piper had access to this when the charmed ones became warlock, fans assumed that by becoming a warlock piper removed a subconscious block in her molecule stopping power that prevented her from hurting people thus allowing her to encase people in ice. Creating explosions-speeding molecules so fast that they combust, a classic witch power in legends, piper's most offensive power Speeding molecules fast but not fast enough to make them explode but to melt objects and increase temp. - piper had this new power if you follow the comics. To piper it is all about moving molecules i guess the disconnect was for Mel the writers establish that her powers were the bonafide temporal chronokinesis in nature. In theory people with time powers in comics, games etc she should be able to stop time, age objects were she made that plant bloom or tea in one episode, most offensive application of her powers should be able to rust and dust and age objects or persons. She should be able to see timelines and maybe travel through time and space i guess that is were the disconnect is. Her powers explained as time based but they are more like as pipers, if that is the case they should give her the power to blow stuff because TK is not use enough by Macy.

I totally agree. The first part of the season was dark and nice, but it took too long too develop and it was so long before they got their powers back. Because of that people got tired and they changed it so much and had so many mini storylines that it got confusing. Action scenes, powers and that horrible command center with so much technology they all make me think of power rangers. So confusing.

Molecules in an accelerated state wouldn’t cause combustion like the original series portrayed. In thermodynamics, explosions are caused by the rapid release of energy in a small volume of space in a rapid amount of time. In molecular chemistry, explosions generally occur when compound violently break down and oxidise into gases. When this happens, molecular bonds break apart, and form new bonds creating gases, but not all of them. The leftover energy takes the form of extreme heat which propels the new gas particles at extreme speeds. If the gas particles surpass the speed of sound, this causes a sonic shockwave. This is why a lot of explosions go boom! This doesn’t happen by simply “speeding up,” the molecules of a subject. In order to explain piper’s power, which is always portrayed as a high intensity explosion, she should not only have had to manipulate the molecular state of something, but also have means to create specific compounds that react to one another violently enough to beak their own bonds. Just heating something up without a reactant wouldn’t cause a high intensity explosion.If that were the case, your electric kitchen stove would explode the area around it every time you turned it on. Just agitating the molecular state (accelerating the molecules) of an object would cause a fire, maybe. But not a chemical explosion. Also, “stopping,” molecules would have an impact on the thermodynamic integrity of a subject (it would likely freeze and lose heat). In the original series, molecular stasis was portrayed as causing subjects to freeze as if frozen in time. In reality, complete molecular stasis would also cause instant heat death. The subject would freeze to absolute zero. What is portrayed here is actually a better portrayal of “molecular,” manipulation than the original iteration of the power.

Budi Prakoso they referenced Melinda Warren in the first season in the Book of Shadows as a “nod” to the original and in season 2 there was a little and I mean VERY little backstory on the Charmed Ones heritage but other than that the connection to the Halliwells is very loosely base to that universe or iteration.

Moira Frankson Exactly. They’re always off doing their own thing. They’re so awkward as sisters too. It’s just terrible writing. I’m also mad that Maggie is always in tears every episode. The youngest sister is supposed to be very confident and fearless.
