Leno goes for the "American everyman", we're not all privileged to be of Scots descent. I have a 1902 wholessler's billhead "Fine English & Scotch woolens... " I like Mel and the movie, but I saw it as very funny, Mel deforested Scotland chewing on the scenery. Americans, among other people see movies as true historical fact. Not so fast, buddy.
