Wow! When I saw the finished product off the needles, I thought, "That's waay too short." But on you it actually comes down further than I thought it would. It's nice to see your process.

Wow the suspense was killing me! Nothing like a game of yarn chicken to raise the blood pressure! I am not a fan of those dropped armholes in a sweater because they kind of restrict your movement, but in your poncho/sweater it looks really elegant. And now your stash is a little lighter, a great feeling. Great job!

This new series is great. I haven’t sewn since my children were young. Your knots you’ve choose are amazing. I just got six fleece from Wisconsin fleece and fiber. So processing them for spinning the letho jacket. It has brioche and fisherman’s rib I think lol. Love your videos keep it up.

Thank you for showing me how to do the Eastern purl. I have struggled with loosey goosey purl stitches right after a knit stitch. Brilliant! There's more combined knitting in my future 😀.

Thank you for a super inspiring and helpful video. I have just discovered your channel and going back through some of the older videos as holiday viewing 😊 Even better, I have found some Lana Grossa Cool Merino in a sale which looks like a good fit for a woolly version of this pattern (one of the test knitters used a very similar yarn). I will definitely be paying attention to your advice about the yoke depth and your tip for joining chainette yarn 👍

Love your project diaries. I know you like to knit in different style…I do too. I’ve recently experienced some carpal tunnel towards the end of my pregnancy (of course right before I learned to knit) I lever knit as much as I can but purling is no fun and super slow. Do you find that one style is more comfortable than others or that you can knit for longer on certain styles?
@melmakesstuff2 жыл бұрын
I do find that I can knit for longer with continental style vs. english, but purling is always slower for me no matter what. The thing that really tends to bother my hands is using thicker yarn/bigger needles, like anything over DK weight and 4.0mm needles tends to irritate my wrists/forearms. If I’m working on a project with worsted weight yarn, I can only do a little bit each day, and I break it up with working on a fingering weight project.

Mel, where did you find the mesh rack?
@suzannescott77244 жыл бұрын
As a beginner my question is do I really need all the ease that is recommended? I did my first sweater using the recommended ease and my gauge was on point and it was big! Now watching you with Kestrel since it’s linen would I be going down a size?
@melmakesstuff4 жыл бұрын
I get what you're saying, I think having lots of ease built in was deliberate on the designer's part - from the Rav pattern photos you can see that there's also a ton of ease on the model, especially in the back. Regardless of what yarn you're choosing, my main concern if you were going to go down a size and make as written (with long sleeves) is that the yoke is kind of long in this pattern, so the bottom of the armhole hits more like mid-arm instead of up closer to your actual armpit. This is a personal preference thing, but going down a size worked for me in this case because I wasn't going to put sleeves on this one; if I had done sleeves, because of the armhole hitting halfway down my upper arm, I think it would be too constricting for my preference. Does that make sense? One alternative if you don't want as much ease would be to choose the smaller size, try it on as you go, and then once the yoke is hitting just at your armpit, separate for the sleeves around that point or just a few rows later so that the underarm of the sweater fits a bit closer to your actual body - that will end up giving you more freedom of movement under the arm, but working the smaller size will give you less ease in the yoke.

I’m making this pattern with bamboo and it’s dripping bad so I’m in the body and decreasing one stitch a round trying to help this hope it works

I also stopped and knitted the the neck and tried it on. Love your adding a new yarn method. I’m going to steal that. Ty. 😢
