remember The Borrowed Angel reaction you did of Mo Pitney ,I saw Mel in person at the village barn in Knoxville in the early 70's and although I love Mo's rendition it was a treat to see Mel do it in person and you are right on the button about traditional country music you lean into it to get more Love it.

I was a senior in High School when Mel Street died. He was one of THE BEST Country singer/songwriters EVER! I was so sad that he killed himself. Sad..... George Jones risked arrest on a open warrant to attend the funeral. A great man....

Wow what a voice. Mel could throw down the tunes. I loved his voice. Good rating. I think things like loyalty, pain, heartbreak in a song affect us more when we can relate. Have a great day Don and everyone else.

I don't know why this song came to mind today, but now I remember it well. It reminds me of how my life was when this song was popular and it makes me feel a mixture of joy and sadness. I was much younger than I am now; they were heady days with many unknowns that lay ahead for me. It's not easy to explain the nature of my feelings, but this song and Mel's music generally was very good. Soulful music like this really speaks to life and the human existence. Thank you Mel.

The writer was Bob McDill. Originally recorded by Mel Street. I have a brother who had been married 6 months, he was a truck driver locally. As he waited to be unloaded one day, he went inside to get cool. Began talking to a guy who was very proud of his new girlfriend. Showed off her pic- it was my new sister in law. True story. Listen to Elvis song " His latest flame". Exact match.

I was just watching Dale Watson's Chicken Shit Bingo tonight - he has a thing that plays lots of music on a screen before they are ready to start. The last song before they shut it down was Mel Street, and he said "Mel Street, what a great actor." I about lost my mind.,

Thanks and Thanks for the kind remarks . I grew up with country so I heard many of these types of songs . Yes and if you get to the bottom of songs sad and about cheating not things that I value (cause I too value faithfulness ) but still great songs .Thanks . Wouldn't you know the next song coming up on you tubes list was Marty Robbins My Woman My Woman my wife reminding me they also had a few about being faithful . I think I recommended that another time so here it is again lol Love that song . Then there was the feisty Loretta Lynn telling you what thinks and the way she feels about someone that wants to take her man . You ain't woman enough and fist city .

Mel was destined undoubtedly for superstardom but this unfortunately did not happen due to his untimely death at 43 in 1978. He would've been the natural successor to The Possum and his music was drenched in the classic tradition of honky-tonk country. My favorite Mel song is "Borrowed Angel" # 7 in 1972 and this was a dream start for him as it was his first release. The tune featured here is just another one of his great recordings and there are many to chose from the musical legacy he left behind. Another excellent review/rating, Don, and keep rockin' dat country.

I don’t understand being disloyal, Like Stapleton sings, “Just let me be the second one to know Yeah, the second one to know” I think people cheat cause they’re looking to fill a void they are missing for the most part.

committed suicide on his 43rd birthday, October 21, 1978. There were reports he suffered from clinical depression, alcoholism and loneliness from being on the road almost constantly and away from family and friends. Whatever it was, there is never a good reason for suicide

Just another song Mel was paid to record, sing and play for his fans !!! Mel didn't live the songs he recorded. Mel was a great singer, entertainer and performer but Malachi didn't live out songs ... Only a select few had personal meaning to him. I know this because Malachi and I were together
