This is a more accurate version of the Melaka Baba Nyonya story and I have validated this based on my own baba nyonya family and ancestry. Thank you for this documentary upload.

Aku uncle saya were greetings from the overseas peranakan Chinese merlion mighty 🙂🙏🐼 Peter 60 saya aku
My great-grandmother was also a Nyonya, I just found out recently, does that mean my grandmother she's also a Nyonya? So I'm 1/4 Nyonya, right? My great-grandmother she's from Penang and moved to Perak. No wonder the food in our family so similar to Nyonya food, and Nyonya rice dumplings are making during the Dragon Boat Festival. We like Nyonya kuih so much , and food with santan.

The original baba & nyonya are the one that came with admiral zheng he & princess hang li po during malacca sultanate era. The princess brought with her maidens & servants from china. They reside in bukit cina because the king gave that land to his wife the princess hang lipo. They intermarried with the locals & called baba & nyonya. Not the one who came later or the waves that came with the british. This is the difference

In Chinese books, Zheng He was always referred as a eunuch (太監). The purpose of sending a eunuch to visit foreign countries was to show superiority. It was the purpose of a novelist Ma Huan. The story about Zheng He reported that he had hundreds of huge ships, each was as huge as a football field. If you people in Malacca had seen them, it was history. If no one did, then it was a novel. The story of your Malacca Sultanate marrying princess Han Li Po was also a novel. We can see the novelistic nature from her Chinese name 漢麗寶. The name written in Chinese meant she was the daughter of a Chinese emperor. But there was no Chinese emperor named 漢。She was just a creation by a novelist.

There's evidence of genetic transmission of the local Malay population in the Baba/ Nonya. A scientific study on the local peranakan population in Singapore found an average of 5-6% Malay DNA. This lends credence to the historical narrative of the Chinese merchants intermarrying local Malay wives. Therefore, it is disingenuous to suggest that many of those identified as baba/nonyas are pure Chinese. Just take a DNA test if in doubt. Consequently, recognition should be given to their Malay ancestry and cultural roots.

.Don't try to mislead the origins and facts. As far as I know my relatives wear sarong or Kebaya because the hot weather where traditional Chinese clothes were not suitable tropical climate as well they used local ingredients to make foods similiar to Chinese flavour. Chinese are very adaptive people, every five kilometre, evolve a different accent and custom in China. But Chinese just said it a different accent. It just like people in UK speak English more than Chinese but still maintain our Chinese culture and worship our Chinese ancestors. My children go to Chinese school in the weekend and passed their Chinese exam. There are some Chinese married Scottish, English, Irish but they don't call themselves European Peranakan. Look at the Jews that speak English, prayed in Hebrew language and never call themselves Peranakan. Your ancestors bought cloth, porcelain, furniture or things make by Chinese skill workers which should not be called Peranakan. The things used 100 or 50 years ago are not used today or 10 years ago. Look at the clothing used few thousands or few hundreds years ago were different as it changed due to time and situation or fashions.
Per UNESCO’s definition, ethnic group’s culture is one’s self-identification / affiliation to it.
