This is really great and with the footy knowledge from the PNG brothers, Fiji will be able to learn a lot from them, and hopefully, Fiji will be able to have more committed to Rugby League.

@@keyboardemperor3540 welcome to rugby league hehehe. I get rugby union size and weight will matter in things like scrums but mostly size doesn't matter. I played league and union all my life and both code coaches told me rugby is 95 percent brain and 5 percent everything else. Most best teams in the world got nothing to do with size or weight. Pure brains, skills and fitness is mostly needed. Look at the best players and or teams in the world. Most of them aren't big by any measure. Simple Aussies don't want to draft many Undersized players in NRL. That's why Aussies recruite more Rugby players in Fiji, Tonga or Samoa.

Only PNG can field a competitive homegrown team and beat some of the teams laden with big names in NRL, none of these small PI countries can do that. Their homegrown teams are amateurs just like these fijians or non-existent in countries like Samoa, tonga or cook islands

@@lipy675 And is the only country in the world that has it as a national sport while it's like a third or fourth played sport in Fiji. Makes me wonder if IRL is ever going to expand the game beyond Australia and England by breaking the mold somehow so that it catches up to union a lot quicker. If Tonga can do it, I'm sure the other island teams can follow suite and make it more global so that it's more than just four teams who can compete for a world cup. Just my opinion.

PNG Hunters need to consider getting some of these Fijian forwards.
@walhospalisa3577
@walhospalisa3577 4 жыл бұрын
The PNG Hunters team is specifically meant for developing PNG rugby league players/ talent and hence to release players to play overseas. We cannot entertain and develop players from other countries in the meantime.
@arthurboiiimona103
@arthurboiiimona103 4 жыл бұрын
@@walhospalisa3577 That's true but developing for what? The Hunters team was put in place as a starter for the NRL bid in which the Hunters would be the feeder team of a PNG NRL team. So in order to do that, we need all the help we need. Nothing wrong about getting our Fijian brothers. At the end of the day, it's more about who can perform and be consistent at it.
@walhospalisa3577
@walhospalisa3577 4 жыл бұрын
@@arthurboiiimona103 We are trying to develop Papua New Guinean rugby talent for our Kumuls and if we do entertain and are successful in entering a NRL team in the foreseeable future, we can then pull out the core of our NRL team from our PNG players playing in at least tier one leagues like NRL and Super League in Europe. At the moment, most Pacific Island national teams from Fiji, Tonga, Samoa are 80 - 100% tier one players. The Kumuls team usually is composed of about 30 - 50% tier one players. The major aim of the Hunters program hence is to increase our national (PNG) talent to balance this imbalance in rugby league talent compared to our other rugby league playing Pacific neighbors so priority is for our PNG players for some time to come. I hope this answers your query.
@deskunk12
@deskunk12 4 жыл бұрын
Very true ARTHURBOII IMONA. The Hunters program is a platform for show casing local PNG Digicel Cup players and also players who have the potential to make it big in the Intrust Cup. There's no saying in the rule that it cannot take a couple of Fijians to be trialed in the team. If given the chance, I think a couple these huge Fijian forwards should be taken into the Hunters team to boost it's forwards like Tikiko Noke (former Snax Tigers) and other potential Fijians.
@arthurboiiimona103
@arthurboiiimona103 4 жыл бұрын
@@walhospalisa3577 You are correct. But you're also missing a key point here. Of these pacific island players in the NRL, i can say 90% of them are born or raised in australia and new zealand and it was easy as they were coached at a young age in the rugby system down south. It's a totally different story for PNG and some Fijian players. So we can't say they're the same thing. We also have a few of our own in the likes of Segeyaro and MacDonald who grew up in the system down south and it wasn't hard getting in. You don't see a lot of raw talent from Samoa and Tonga. They're whole team is either bred and raised in AUS or NZ, not in their home islands. Besides that, if you want to bridge the gap, we need a team in the NRL, not just the QRL. And a quality team is needed for that. That's why having a few Fijian brothers wouldn't hurt a bit. You are looking at giving PNG players a place in the Hunters. I on the other hand am looking at the bigger picture, and that's to get a team into the NRL. If we can do that, we increase the chances of PNG players to play in the NRL or in the QRL (feeder team for the NRL team).

I get what your saying but size doesn't mean they'll be good. If that was the case then teams like Samoa, New Zealand, Cook Islands, Fiji, Tonga or all the other Pacific island nations would be the best teams in the world. But we both know that PNG has beaten Fiji, Cook Islands on many occasions and now Great Britain. So size doesn't really matter

@@kaumibon seems like you guys are just stuck on enjoying beating fiji and cook islands what about Tonga, samoa and other big teams..keep in mind this is your national sports and yet every world cup you can't go beyond the quarterfinals..Fiji on the other hand are still developing local players cos our national sports is 7s rugby which is more global than league

That's correct. Talks are under way to bring in a couple of big Fijians to boost Lae Snax Tigers forward pack for season 2020. Lae Snax Tigers have been getting a handful of Fijian to trial them out with the team since 2018. Good development for both countries.
