This is Sheena Easton's signature song, and many Bond film fans' choice for the best Bond theme song ever; singing it is as hard as trying to equal Shirley Bassey doing Goldfinger. Then, this song is much more vocally demanding than a pop song. Mel rose to fame as one voice in a group. Even as a soloist she has always been able to rely on musical arrangement to disguise any weaknesses of her voice. Here however, there's no one else lending support and the unforgiving arrangement exposes her voice completely giving her no room for error. This gives rise to the only negative thing I can say about her performance. Her attention to technique is evident, the precise pronunciation of some of the words just a little obvious making her singing a tiny bit mechanical. Everything else however is perfect.

Love your comment. I’ve loved Melanie Chisholm since her spice girls days and have followed her since. I’ve always known she’d become more than a member of a group. She was definitely the most vocally talented of them all, and still is. I didn’t know people called her ugly spice. :( I hate that. I’ve always thought she was beautiful.
