There’s symbolism for her swords- 8 of swords means “You're free from your past, untethered from your old habits and patterns, and open to the possibilities of what lies ahead.” Then she stabs another sword inside of Mel, which makes 9- 9 of swords can be interpreted as “plagued by fear, guilt, doubt, and worries” Which I interpreted that she is letting go her fears and doubts from the past looking forward to a better future. When the rabbits are doing the ritual, you can make out a star shape. Two on top, two on side, and one at the bottom. If you connect them you make a “inverted pentagram” I interpreted this she’s being buried because inverted pentagram means “elements over spirits” it might mean that she’s being buried by the earth since she’s the spirit/ghost in this case

anyone who is sad that she's leaving the Crybaby Era just know that everyone changes, im pretty sure even melanie felt the way same way as us. Like melanie said she's 28 not 19 and quick reminder she is not "DITCHING" crybaby, you could use the word "EVOLVING". I'm positive we will not feel sad once the album is out.

The album will deal with past life regression, which is basically gaining knowledge of your former lives. The former life in question is Cry Baby, meaning that throughout the album, this new character will regain pieces of consciousness from her life as Cry Baby. So Cry Baby isn't completely gone, her story/life still serves a purpose in Portals, and people need to know this! Cry Baby is still with us! Not just because the fairy creature is the same soul as Cry Baby, but her old life will be a topic on the album. I predict that by the end of the album, the fairy creature will have completely regained every memory of their former life as Cry Baby. Not to mention, this album will for sure feature Cry Baby's old friends like Angelita, Ben, and even Lilith of course. Look at the five creatures at the beginning of the music video; Angelita, Celeste, Magnolia, Fleur, and Ben? It kinda adds up!

Timestamps are according to the music video! 4:19 I immediately backtracked to count how many swords were impaled into Crybaby’s physical form because the scene reminds me of Tarot cards. I counted 9. The Nine of Swords symbolizes “plagued by negative thoughts, guilt, doubt, worries or depression.” When taking this into consideration, it interprets as Crybaby’s physical form carried many burdens but now her “soul” or new form has set her free from such. She also refuses to carry the burden of how people reacted to her death (she owes herself that much), but she cares enough to acknowledge it and reach out nonetheless. Attempted closure, “Give me closure. My body has died, but I’m still alive. I’m back from the dead.” 4:32 Sidenote-if you’re familiar with astral projection, this looks like a spin of the “silver cord,” also known as, the “astral cord.” The rest of the music video then speaks for itself. I love how Melanie went from religious connotations in After School to spiritual in Portals to show growth and diversity in herself, Crybaby, and her production choices. Gorgeous, beautiful, otherwordly, magnificent!

10:45 So I guessed this because she had a theme in "After school", it was related to tarot cards I think, but I looked up what the 9 of swords means and it says; Upright: Fear, Anxiety, Terror, Negativity, Stress among other things. It could represent Cry Baby's past life and how she felt during her years of life or just the feeling of dying, being something terrifiying for Cry Baby. An inverted 9 of swords represent light at the end of the tunnel wich is self-explanatory when you look at the theme of the album.
