One thing I really like about Mad Hatter is the constant references to Alice in Wonderland. The whole song talks about madness (and honestly Alice in Wonderland is basically madness), right at the beginning she (mel) talks about going down the rabbit hole, and that's how the story starts (with Alice going down the rabbit hole) and talks about painting white roses red, exactly what the Queen of Hearts did (did = ordered others to do). Afterwards, she talks about getting drunk with a blue caterpillar and even includes the phrase “You can be Alice, I'll be the Mad Hatter”. And, of course, the song title is just brilliant, I mean, talking about Alice in Wonderland in a song about madness is simply perfect and that's what does of Melanie Martinez, Melanie Martinez! (I hope the last sentence makes sense, I'm Brazilian and in Portuguese it makes sense-) As I said, I'm Brazilian, so I'm sorry for any grammar mistakes! 😔💗
