To me I interpret the song as she's talking about how people don't give her "permission" to feel the way she does. She's singing about how she feels sick but people who hate/dislike her they think she's faking it. The type of people who say "You're famous so you can't be sad." or "Your rich stop whining about your life, there are less fortunate people.". When she says "I'm tired of wishing I was ditching." Means she's tired of wishing she wasn't in the public eye/being a celebrity or following her dream of being a singer. She's asking those people for permission to be able to feel sick(burned out, hurt, tired, etc..) since they think she's not allowed to be. Similar to how if you aren't hunched over dying you're expected to be at work or school. For her she's expected to always have a happy public image even though it's impossible.

That does make sense... but Melanie explained that it was simply about bullying she suffered in school. She used to fake she was sick so she would escape bullying and go to the nurse's office.

I resonate with this song because i used to "act" sick to get out of being bullied by others in school. The nurses office was the only "safe space" before i was able to go home.

my interpretation of this song especially with how she uses the school setting for it is how schools dont care unless the student is physically hurt. for instance at my old school the counselors always had their doors closed and students often times faked injuries or caused injuries just so they could get help.
