Susan, I was about to comment to try hydroquinone for severe malasma as i think retinol is too harsh for yr dry and sensitive skin, when i heard maybe sometime in future u would be recommended by yr doctor... Hydroquine in low percentages saved my post-acne marks skin and is a gold standard in hyperpigmentation treatment... Truly believe in it.

I love your videos, Susan. I always learn so much. I have some honest and constructive feedback - when you consistently bounce back and forth towards the mirror, it is distracting. A little bit of fine when you’re trying to show us a product or your skin but it seems like a habit. Thank you for considering. I also have been using hydroquinone and it’s really been helping my skin. I hope it helps your melasma.

I struggle with hyperpigmentation too. My Derm recommends TCA Chemical Peel to help fade the appearance of it. I have had 2 of them in the past couple years and each time my skin looks and feels sooooooo much better. Sometimes it can take up to 5 or 6 treatments to get the desired results. I'm going to get another this fall (you shouldn't get them in the summer due to sun sensitivity from the peel) Is also helped with my acne too. I rarely get bad breakouts anymore. I will warn you that there is about a 5 day "ugly phase" because of the severe peeling of the skin, but your face looks soo pretty and fresh after. I think there are laser treatments too yo get rid of hyperpidmentation (I think they are alot more expensive though)

You would benefit from TCA peels. Your melasma is not too severe, it wouldn't take too many treatments for you to get rid of it. This is from my experience, and my melasma was really, really bad. I got rid of it thanks to TCA peels, very little left on my jaw line.

Melasma is hormonal. Talk to your GYN or a endocrinologist about doing a lab panel. Once you figure out what's triggering your hormone imbalance (it might be your thyroid too) & regulate it, then the melasma will just break up naturally.

BBL is NOT recommended for melasma. It falls under the IPL category. See Dr. Davin Lim’s channel. It could potentially trigger rebound pigmentation that becomes darker and harder to treat. Melasma is complicated and usually requires a combo approach.

@Dr__Feelgood 3 жыл бұрын
I think most people who claim to not be able to tolerate retinol just do not know how long and severe (or just have not endured and tried to tolerate it further) the acclimatization period can be. And I have a thick, male and very oily skin that can tolerate just about anything, including high-percentage TCA and Rx 20% salicylic acid. I was prescribed tretinoin for acne when I was 13 or 14 for severe cystic acne in the 90s when retinol was not yet even available in OTC products. My dermatologist made sure to let me know that it was going to get bad for around 2 months before it gets better. So when it happened, not only was I expecting it, I was also actually happy to know that it was working. But after 3 months, like she also promised, I would see that my acne would be under control and I'd have good skin again. She was right. I got compliments from my friends and classmates. By the sixth month, I had virtually no acne and dark marks. I was free. My mistake was to not then continue using it and so I'd have to start again but even then, the acclimatization wouldn't be as severe or as long as the first time. So if you're not willing to endure it, and it's probably not gonna be THAT bad and long for retinol anyway, which is not even half as potent as Rx tretinoin, you don't deserve its benefits. That's all.

@SusanYara
@SusanYara 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Zelia! We use a pretty high percentage of azelaic acid. 10% is the highest you can go over-the-counter, so I would ease into it. It’s known to sometimes make skin itch or tingle, but it should subside in a couple weeks of regular use. If you’re skin is red and irritated, then I would discontinue use ASAP and contact our customer service, so we can help you out.

I think from what she said, she thinks it will irritate her. That's why she's using the alpha arbutin instead. It's the precursor to hydroquinone like retinol vs tretinoin.

Hi. I’m sorry if this seems annoying but the mixed makeup logo is so off centre and all that and I don’t know if it’s intentional but I thought I’d just leave this here just in case.

Susan, this is only an observation but maybe you are mixing tretinoin with a lot of other products, and this interferes with it. Because I also have very sensitive skin and this was my problem also. On your tretinoin nights, just use that alone with a bland moisturizer: no arbutin, no azelaic acid, none! Tretinoin really needs the healthy respect it deserves, she works best alone.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Maybe she's using too many products at once.

shes talked about how she's done the most minimal/basic routine with tretinoin to try get used to it (even buffered) but it still didn't work for her. only this past couple months incorporating it regularly into a routine
