Rather than including the word "station", would it not be more effective to replace the blue dot with a train symbol? It reduces text, and doesn't require reference to the legend.

A possible reason for putting in the lake could be to make it clear that it's not a space you can walk across.

One thing that we just have to realise is that the CBD is the part of the map that most people need to use. That's why hospitals are only shown the closer you get to the CBD, and same with landmarks. It's the only place that the lines are mostly straight, too. Great video!

My guess as to why Footscray and the Eye and Ear hospital are not included would be because they do not have emergency departments or urgent care centres

A great new Tram Map. Great that the word Station has been added, this will make it clearer for visitors. Interchangers are important. Very informative, thank you for sharing Philip.

An interesting thing I've noticed, Route 96 along the St Kilda line section doesn't show interchanges for routes 1 and 12 at Park St and Albert St respectively. Although there is no direct connection the stops are only a 5 minute walk in both instances. These crossings are also two of only 3 places in Victoria where with grade separated tram over tram crossings. (The third is at Preston Workshops under "The Hump" which the bridge and test track are both non-passenger sections)

I know this is an older video but i noticed a lot of the bends in the map are where a tram makes a noticable turn. For my regular commute, I know when I feel the second hard 45 degree right turn i need to start paying attention as my stop isnt far away from that. I doubt this design choice helps those unfamiliar with the routes but i dont think the squiggles are purely artistic

maybe one day they could start making a printed vs non-printed version....where in the electronic version you have a lot more flexibility to provide: user directed detail, level of detail overlays, etc...or even, god forbid [sic], travel planning included in the map.

Great video! Interestingly, although route 78 is the only route to be nearly straight, route 59 has also been shown as straight on both the old and new maps.

Route 19 is almost straight with only a minor bend at Haymarket and a slight curves as you approach O'Hea Street and the terminus in North Coburg. Especially useful for the fixed bogies on the D2's

Abbotsford Interchange is confusingly named after the street it's on, even though the suburb isn't all that far away. They should probably call it something like "Royal Park Interchange" or even just name the stop after the hospital instead to reduce confusion.

Thanks for the update on the map. Btw When buses become EV buses then I’ll be pleased. The noise and pollution from the diesels are awful.

I've never seen a map of local transport which leaves out so many stations. Very weird! Bus or tram maps of any other city I know always show all stations. Of course the whole map would need to be bigger then. But you could already save lots of space by removing "Tram routes - via", tram destinations and landmarks. None of these are really needed I think. I've never seen a map before that wastes so much space with that kind of stuff. Anyways, very interesting video, thank you! Greets from Germany

There's over 1700 tram stops. If they added them all, the map would be unreadable.

Plenty of large bus system maps show no stops. The stops are pretty close, if you see where you wanna go push the stop button (eh, close enough. Maybe you need to do a little walk.) or ask the driver

I like the map it's certainly more useful with the street names and landmarks etc and geographical accuracy. But it does look kinda ugly and cluttered especially the areas around south melbourne
