On one hand, agreed, I can’t wait to meld Mishra reliably. On the other hand, right now in the casual queue it’s a lot of the same old decks but running one, maybe two new cards, aside from mono-red becoming an even more annoying Gruul. So, at the moment, underwhelmed by the set’s impact on Standard. I want to lose to something new, dang it!

Definitely another way to approach it! Still need both in the graveyard which requires a little bit of setup.
@Hudson3167 ай бұрын
I had a bit of a fiddle last night after seeing this list and using the grixis framework from those Push//Pull vein ripper decks I was able to get something working that did ok, though it was probably more effective just going for the double vein ripper (though opponents panicking in response to seeing Mishra merge IS fun)
@N3gativeR3FLUX7 ай бұрын
I've tried it before. The only issues are surviving long enough to cast it and making sure it's in the yard. Like LVD said bit more of a setup.
@MetalHev7 ай бұрын
@@N3gativeR3FLUX surviving shouldn't be a big issue, you just play creature, creature, dragon, mishra, they have to keep killing your stuff or die so they can't play stuff, then you meld. If they sunfall you just go into the cog in the top right and reroll the game.

i think it's a fantastic design. it's not impossible removal. as a dimir/Golgari player myself i found that removing a card often is less important than knowing the opponents hand. it's obviously good if you hit a combo piece or interrupt the early turns. it's strong without being... well... sheoldred, the apocalypse...

@LegenVD Melding Mishra is one of my favourite decks. Love me overpowered creatures. I had hoped that Kaya’s Ghostform would work with a piece of the meld but unfortunately it doesn’t. The writing of the cards/rules makes it seem like you should get the combined creature as well as the one enchanted one because you exile a creature to meld and ghostform procs on exile
@davidhower70957 ай бұрын
The card Ghostform tries to return is already on the battlefield due to meld, so it can’t be found by it.
@HellionSol7 ай бұрын
@@davidhower7095 No, because think of the stack. Before it ever even melds, it needs to get exiled. It would make more sense for you to get the enchanted creature back and not get the melded one. I still think you should be able to get both. The melded creature is a separate entity than the front side or it’s pieces.
@davidhower70957 ай бұрын
@@HellionSol It’s not, actually. Mishra’s triggered ability has to resolve all at once before anything else can go onto the stack. Both cards are exiled and return to the battlefield melded as Mishra, Lost to Phyrexia. Then Kaya’s Ghostform triggers, trying to return the creature card it was attached to… which is no longer in exile. It’s one of the two cards that form the melded permanent. You can see this at 34:09, when Fading Hope bounces Mishra and both Mishra and Dragon Engine are returned to hand. Think about it this way. In real life, you take both cards and flip them over to form one oversized card. When Ghostform triggers, where are you getting that extra copy of Dragon Engine from? Even if you could get one of the meld components out of exile before they melded, you wouldn’t be able to create the meld. This is what happens when you try to meld with a token copy. The melding fails and its components are stuck in exile.
@HellionSol7 ай бұрын
@@davidhower7095 i agree with most of what you say. Its nuanced. One thing you are wrong about however is in the rulings, the melded creature is its own entity. It is represented by flipping and combining your cards, but it exists separate from them. I understand why it doesn’t work, I just think its a gameplay limitation that should work as its within the rules.
@collin45557 ай бұрын
@@HellionSol It's a separate game object in the same sense that a creature returned to your hand and replayed is a different object than it was before, despite being the same card; but you're never going to see those two objects at once.

Is it possible to combine this type of deck with the rakdos ovika combo you posted a few weeks earlier it seems like there would be a lot of overlap with the card choices and synergies
@nathanielnizard21637 ай бұрын
This 3 cards synergie (mishra /engine/ dirge) is interesting enough to brew around but the archetype isn't right, it is a bit in the middle of everything with early game creatures that have 0 potential to finish the game and very timid high end on the curve. I'd go 3 colors or more controlly with bigger end of the curve. Recurring and tutoring mishra and engines is still very strong, it is a win con with ok standalone parts.
@LegenVD7 ай бұрын
Started out as a Jund deck with more top end, but it kept getting steamrolled by aggro decks. Lowering the curve was my way of addressing it. You could also pack the deck full of sweepers, but then you're not getting the most out of Dirge or Mishra.

Lively Dirge has upside though of essentially being a tutor for with mishra or the dragon engine, plus upside of putting dragon engine in graveyard after the tutor. Lively Dirge is what makes the deck more consistent because of the tutor and graveyard assist. Push Pull is tempting if both Mishra and Dragon engine are already in graveyard but if you are missing the key pieces in the graveyard it feels like a expensive dead card in your hand; maybe a 1 of card as a finisher card for late game when both Dragon engine and mishra is in the graveyard.
