Today we did a shore dive from Mala Pier around high tide (1pm) and got to see all sorts of creatures. Here’s a pretty good paper on the aquatic life around Maui: www.nature.org/content/dam/tn...

Mala Pier is one of my favorite dive spots in Maui. Next time you go try the Cathedral or Back Wall dives. Also Mala Pier at night is a very cool dive as well. 🤙

I often stay at the Kapalua Bay villas. Check out Kapalua Bay. It’s a short drive north of you. It used to be a phenomenal reef literally feet off the beach. Great snorkeling.

I’m headed back to Maui the last week of January! You should try to snorkel at the dumps. It’s where I see Achilles regularly

2:58 Pocillopora grandis, also called Antler coral. They will never look what we see in any tank, Mark. The conditions in the ocean are way different than what we can offer. Lately this hobby has been even more distant to any reproduction of what we see in nature, specially with the fashion of LEDs. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip!! I also had a Costochondral separation last September. I felt on my side surfing a great swell. It was a scary experience not to be able to breath after I've lost my board in a big swell!! It took me about a month to recover to the point I could sleep normally. Hope your recovery time to be shorter. Aloha!

Corals do look so different in the wild, just wondering if it isn't all these things that we add that creates the coloration.

I thought you weren't allowed to get that close to sea turtles... just curious

How deep did you dive? I’m shocked by how good the video quality is.
@melevsreef2 жыл бұрын
The sand was 31’ so I was mostly around 15-20’ this dive. I didn’t use my dive lights this time since it was shallow.

Really really nice video. I have many years of diving behind me, but I want a place to take my wife snorkeling. Is this a good place?
@melevsreef Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. The dive shop can tell you all the best snorkeling spots, including this pier.
